The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University is dedicated to developing responsible professionals committed to improving the quality of life, enhancing the physical environment and protecting the public welfare through the design of the built environment. The practice of environmental design is a creative design synthesis that requires both a breadth of knowledge concerning society and its functions as well as a depth of technical and physical knowledge of materials, procedures and business organization.

  • Welcome to the Kent State University ToddCast, where President Todd Diacon speaks with people from across Northeast Ohio, many of whom are Kent State graduates or friends of the university. For the inaugural episode, President Diacon meets with Lillian Kuri, BS ’93, BArch ’94, a graduate of the Kent State architecture program. She is the president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation, where she focuses on design and community and how to lift the individuals and neighborhoods in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Kuri was integral to the opening of the very visible and impressive new home for the Cleveland Foundation on Euclid Avenue at East 66th Street in Cleveland’s Midtown.     Last Wednesday, the CAED, College of the Arts, and School of Art welcomed distinguished artist Krzysztof Wodiczko as part of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series. He presented his lecture “Cultural Prosthetics: Projections and Instrumentations” to a full house audience. Wodiczko exhibited his award-winning projects and participated in an open discussion with excited students and staff to discuss artistry and large-scale projections.   • Join Construction Management for their first lecture of the Spring 2025 Speaker Series in the Cene Lecture Hall as they host KSU Alum John Andreani for his lecture "Estimating for Lean Construction" on Wednesday, March 5 at 5:30 PM. John Andreani serves as the Land Development Manager at Addison Properties, overseeing all facets of land development projects from inception to completion. Andreani holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Kent State University, is a LEED-accredited professional, and actively contributes to the industry as the Vice President of the Industry Advisory Board for Construction. John is also an Adjunct Professor at Lorain County Community College teaching estimating. #kentstate #caed #lecture

Zoom link: https://lnkd.in/gPYBzHdj Belinda Tato is an architect, landscape architect and urban designer, co-founder and director of the firm Ecosistema Urbano, founded in 2000 in Madrid. Ecosistema Urbano specializes in urban consultancy, architecture, public space quality assessment and urban transformation processes. Their work has developed around the design of public space focusing on the improvement of bioclimatic conditions in contexts and climates as diverse as Norway, Florida or Bahrain. In parallel, Ecosistema Urbano has been developing participatory tools and techniques to involve citizens in the creative and transforming processes of urban environments. During the last decade Ecosistema has successfully experimented with social software, communication platforms and the possibilities offered by new technologies to achieve the creation of more democratic urban environments. Since 2000, Ecosistema Urbano has received prizes and awards on more than 50 occasions and their work has been covered by media from more than 40 countries. Belinda Tato has led workshops, lectured and taught at the world's most prestigious institutions. She is currently an Associate Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, where she has been teaching since 2010. #kentstate #caed #lecture

  • Students and faculty are invited to attend the Spring 2025 Research & Innovation Forum where the CAED’s own Taraneh Meshkani is presenting her research project “Artificial Intelligence and Urban Data: Enhancing Spatial Analysis in Cities.” The event will take place in the Kent State Student Center Schwebel Room on Thursday, Feb. 27 from 3:30-5:30 PM and is open to the public. Kent State University’s Division of Research and Sponsored Programs hosts Research & Innovation Forums twice a year as an opportunity for faculty and students to hear what their university colleagues study and research. This is a special event that unites the various departments across campus to share knowledge and faculty scholarship. #kentstate #caed #research
