Thanks, Fox Motors Technician Training Center and Fox Honda Dealership for an immersive field trip that our Auto Tech students got to experience. Students toured the facility and dealership, learned about various career opportunities within Fox Motors and even got to apply for short-term externships and paid internships! Some of our Criminal Justice students experienced a scuba diving training with the Kent County Sheriff's Office, Michigan Search and Rescue team. For many, this was the first time trying on scuba equipment and breathing underwater with it. After doing this, many students expressed interest in wanting to get their scuba certification, something that will make them standout when applying for a law enforcement position.

Thanks, Flying Acres Ag for visiting our Agriscience program yesterday! Students were amazed at the large drones used for spraying crops and how the industry is rapidly growing.

Western teams up with Kent Career Tech Center (KCTC) to create a seamless pathway for high school students to transition to WMU Aviation. With this initiative, students can kick-start their careers by earning college credits at no out-of-pocket cost with the opportunity to dual enroll at Western. Our Hospitality and Culinary students had the opportunity this week to work alongside local industry chefs at the Taste of Hope event: a benefit for the American Cancer Society, held at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Chefs competed for awards such as best plate, best booth design, best taste, and 2024 Top Chef. Our students were able to get hands-on experience with industry leaders, gaining valuable networking and customer service skills. How fun!

Thanks Kent Companies for visiting our Applied Construction Technology program on Tuesday! Kent Companies demonstrated how to set up "symons forms", used to pour concrete foundation walls, that they donated to our program. They also brought a layout engineer with his equipment. The layout engineers' job is to determine points that show where on the jobsite the walls need to be. Students had a great time hearing from professionals on the field and getting to experience more hands-on learning.

...“It’s about getting your hands dirty,” said Caledonia senior Aydin Weyer, whose group was working in the children’s garden. “It is giving us hands-on experience, and I am learning what the different plants are and how to work with them.” Aydin, who noted this is his second year with the Agriscience program, said his dream job is to work as a veterinarian at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “The (Agriscience) program has us working with both animals and plants, which has really helped me to decide what I want to do in a future career,” he said. ______________ Read more about this amazing experience our students had at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in the School News Network story: https://lnkd.in/eTkX6555
