Since the beginning of the year I have had the pleasure of working with Andrea C., Dustin Meador, and the rest great team at The University of Texas at El Paso to lead a feasibility study for the potential founding of a law school. UTEP's commitment to its mission of social mobility, employment outcomes, and accessibility has provided me and the Kennedy & Company Education Strategies team the chance to look at law schools in a different light, breaking the mold on how the J.D. has historically been delivered. My last few weeks have focused on infrastructure and growth strategy as I joined online and continuing education colleagues for October conference season. At the joint conference on alternative credentials by UPCEA and AACRAO we talked about financial modeling for noncredit and certificate programs and at the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) we discussed leadership and building capacity from the perspective of well-being. A common thread at both of these conferences is that while schools continue to look for right-fit and right-priced programs that meet the needs of contemporary learners, the experts in extended learning are still having to spin wheels on campus to help their institutions become more friendly to post-traditional learners. So, for my friends in Academic Affairs, Registrar, Bursar, and Enrollment Management roles: invite your friendly neighborhood online or continuing ed leader out for coffee to hear their hot takes on ways your university can improve its approach and services for those seeking short-form credentials, degree completion, or credit for prior learning. What a great day in Lynchburg with my colleague Michael Polk. It’s a pleasure to support the #financialaid community and be there for #VASFAA’s fall training. There were so many great folks that have been in the trenches this past year working, despite challenging headwinds, to provide opportunities for students to pursue #highereducation. Superheroes is a most appropriate theme. It was fantastic to see the laughter, camaraderie, and sharing of experiences as they gear up for the 2025-2026 #enrollment cycle.
