As Global Fellow Maria Cristina de Araujo said, we won’t know what our communities need if we’re not there. For the past two years, our Global Fellows Network has had the privilege of immersing in an unforgettable community empowerment experience in northeast Brazil. Through music, dance, cooking and hands-on learning, they connected with the quilombo community of Baixada Maranh?o — descendants of formerly enslaved Black and Indigenous people — gaining invaluable insights on resilience, tradition and collective progress. The lessons learned go beyond cultural exchange — they inspire new ways for our fellows to strengthen their communities. For the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, how does faith connect to healing from the past? Judith Roberts, program director for racial justice ministries at ELCA, says that their celebration of National Day of Racial Healing builds off the church’s work to bring accountability, reconciliation and healing in ELCA and in the world. Faith communities like ELCA have the ability to bring people together in safe spaces on #HowWeHeal and you can read more about how other churches are starting conversations: https://lnkd.in/eEwsDRk3
