We value our partnership with Teesside University that supports bright and committed individuals in gaining the critical knowledge and skills needed for the transition to clean energy, through Kellas Midstream Clean Energy Scholarships. It was a pleasure hosting the newest scholars along with members of the university staff at our CATS terminal on #Teesside last week. This nationally-significant infrastructure plays a vital role in UK energy security, transporting and processing around 40% of the UK's gas production. It’s also the location of our H2NorthEast project, a 1GW #lowcarbon hydrogen production facility we are developing with SSE Thermal which will significantly contribute to industrial decarbonisation throughout the region and beyond. #energy #energysecurity #energytransition #netzero #bluehydrogen #collaboration

We recently welcomed representatives from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to our CATS terminal on #Teesside. The visit played an important part in the review process for approval of £8.1m of funding that Government has committed from the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF) towards Front End Engineering Design (FEED) work for our H2NorthEast blue #hydrogen project that we are developing in partnership with SSE Thermal. H2NorthEast has been selected as a key pathfinder project to ensure there is a pipeline of projects coming forward that will enable the UK’s #netzero transition, following on from a major £22bn announcement from Government last month which committed to opening up the East Coast Cluster CCUS network and further expansion. Working with our FEED delivery partner Worley and technology partner Johnson Matthey, the H2NorthEast team has been advancing the FEED study as a critical step towards realisation of H2NorthEast. During the visit, we showcased our pioneering project which aims to produce up to a gigawatt of #lowcarbon hydrogen on Teesside. H2NorthEast will be located next to, and integrated with, our existing CATS facilities. Overall, it is set to unlock over £2 billion of investment and contribute significantly to the UK’s hydrogen production capacity, representing 10% of the 2030 target. H2NorthEast will not only reduce carbon emissions but also play a vital role in the #energytransition by providing a sustainable and reliable source of hydrogen. We extend our appreciation to DESNZ and Government for their ongoing support and commitment to our project. Their visit and the subsequent approval process underscore the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving our shared goals of #energysecurity and #sustainability.

We welcome last week's Budget that made a clear commitment to encourage investment and support carbon capture and storage in our industrial heartlands. ? We also note the recognition of the vital role that the #NorthSea plays for the UK economy and energy security from the continuation of first year allowances, and those for decarbonisation. ? We believe that hydrogen will play a key part in the UK’s clean energy future and securing a future for industrial heartlands as we unlock the full potential of H2NorthEast. ? Together, we can power a sustainable future for the UK with a balanced energy system that delivers secure, affordable and lower carbon energy. As the operator of nationally-significant North Sea midstream infrastructure, we play a key role in maintaining UK energy security, transporting and processing around 40% of UK gas production. Take a look at our Gas Facts document highlighting why a responsibly managed energy transition can only be achieved with UK domestic gas at the heart of our energy system https://lnkd.in/e5mbeDhw #GasFacts #energy #energysecurity #energytransition #energyfuture

We’re celebrating #WorldHydrogenDay! Developing, investing in and operating #lowcarbon #hydrogen infrastructure is a natural fit with our track record in gas transportation and processing, and we’re leveraging our existing assets to underpin the development of strategic net zero infrastructure. Our H2NorthEast project on #Teesside, in partnership with SSE Thermal, is a £2bn investment that’s vitally important to the region and the UK by supporting industry decarbonisation, bringing significant economic benefits, creating jobs and skills development opportunities, and capturing up to 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually. We welcome the much-anticipated announcement from government confirming its support for the Track 1 carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects in the Northwest and Northeast of England. This is a hugely positive step for the UK’s developing blue hydrogen sector, however there is now a need for all CCUS and blue hydrogen projects to receive the same commitment and to move forward at pace, in order for the government to meet its net zero targets. H2NorthEast, our blue hydrogen project being developed on Teesside, is coming towards the end of front-end engineering design (FEED) and stands ready to deliver a gigawatt of low carbon hydrogen to support large-scale industrial decarbonisation for key sectors of the UK economy. As highlighted in today’s announcement, this funding is an important first step to the UK reaching Net Zero and we look forward to working closely with government to understand how we can accelerate progress with H2NorthEast, a £2bn investment that is vitally important to Teesside and the UK by bringing significant economic benefits, creating hundreds of jobs, and capturing up to 2 million tonnes of CO2 annually. H2NorthEast closely aligns to the vision described today by the Prime Minister, by leveraging our existing assets to underpin the development of strategic Net Zero infrastructure that will help support decarbonisation, jobs, skills development and significant economic activity for decades to company. The Kellas team is grateful for the continued support of local communities and suppliers to its existing CATS terminal on Teesside. H2NorthEast will ensure that we build on this relationship supporting the continued growth of the region as it moves towards a vibrant Net Zero economy.

?? Have a listen to our BD Manager Marcus Paige delivering an important message about UK gas on this recent Energy Voice Out Loud podcast (at 31.45 secs) ? “The UK has a huge gas deficit and imports over 50% of its gas today, and by 2030 will be importing 75% of its gas.” Climate Change Committee Our recently-launched 'Gas Facts' highlights the pivotal role of UK domestically-produced gas as a vital transition fuel and demonstrates why it is a more sustainable, secure and economically beneficial option for the UK than LNG imports. Well done to Team Kellas Harry Ford, Daniel Campion (CEng MIMechE), Craig Wreglesworth, Paul Mullan and Kate Sibley who completed this year’s Banchory Beast Race on 21 September and raised over £1000 for Archway. A brilliant effort over 10km and 30 obstacles involving hills, mud, bogs and repeated dunkings in the icy cold Knockburn Loch! Huge thanks to everyone who donated, helping us raise vital funds for Archway, a charity in Aberdeen providing care and support to children and adults with learning difficulties and their families. https://lnkd.in/e-D-jeRT #beastrace2024 #teamwork #charity

At last week’s Offshore Energies UK conference in Aberdeen, our CEO Nathan Morgan took to the stage as part of the ‘Decarbonisation in Action’ session alongside Ithaca Energy, Storegga and Flotation Energy. ? He spoke about how the UK can achieve decarbonisation at speed and scale, enabled by the transition from gas to low carbon hydrogen in a managed and responsible way. ? Some food for thought from his presentation: ? ? Natural gas has already played a fundamental role in the energy transition, by contributing to the displacement of coal and supporting the scale-up of renewables in its role as a back-up to intermittent wind and solar power. ? 80% of UK homes are heated by gas and it generates 30% of our electricity. ? ? Natural gas underpins the large-scale development of low carbon CCUS-enabled hydrogen – it will be crucial in decarbonising UK industrial clusters at pace. ? ? To date, only around 1GW out of the 10GW of low carbon hydrogen required to meet the UK’s 2030 target has been selected by government. ? ? Our H2NorthEast project stands ready to deliver 1GW of low carbon hydrogen to support industrial decarbonisation across North East England, contributing 10% of the UK’s target low carbon hydrogen production capacity and bringing £2bn of investment into blue H2 production on Teesside. ?
