Kekoa Foundation was honored to help sponsor and participate in the first annual Native Hawaiian Organizations Association (NHOA) Community Showcase. The event brought together an amazing group of collaborators and local organizations that highlighted their contributions to the community. The Kekoa Foundation looks forward to being a part of this annual event for many years to come. It was a great success! Progress continues at the Loko I’a Pā?aiau?Fishpond in ‘Aiea! Aunty Kehau, Uncle Bruce, and the team of dedicated volunteers continue to cultivate the land and expand the features of this special place. Kekoa Foundation, a Native Hawaiian Organizations Association member, is has been a proud supporter of Loko I’a Pā?aiau?for the past three years and is excited about expanding our support in 2025. This particular fishpond is an important?cultural site for Native Hawaiians as the land previously belonged to the Hawaiian Royal family and highlights an indigenous method of sustainable farming found?only in Hawaii.?Today, the fishpond is being restored in the traditional way, by hand, and hosts schools and other community partners to?teach them about Hawaiian history, culture, and farming practices. ? The restoration project is a collaborative effort by the US Navy and Hawaiian community?to honor the land and its significance for the Hawaiian people. Please visit the fishpond website to learn more about their mission and impact: “The sacred site is currently stewarded and restored with the loving hands of many, as a community-based partnership between the U.S.Navy, the Ali‘i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club, the ‘Aiea Community Association, the descendants and residents of Pā`aiau, ‘Aiea and Kalauao, and the larger community.” https://paaiau.org Imua!
