Getting $hit done… In my 20 years of coaching entrepreneurial teams, I have heard countless stories of useless planning sessions. Either the participants did not accomplish nearly what they wanted to, or there was no follow-up accountability mechanism in place. As you move into Annual Planning for 2025, you need a system and a process to achieve a great outcome and build a solid plan that connects strategy and execution. To do that, you need a system, a collaborative process, and an expert to lead your session. I recently launched a new client with our Metronomics system powered by our Keith Upkes Coaching collaborative team process, and the results were amazing. Keith Upkes Coaching, though small, is a powerhouse consisting of a husband-and-wife team of industry veterans. But it didn’t start there, and it wasn’t easy... I started my business in 2003 as a fractional CFO consulting organization and converted to Business Coaching in 2005. I started small; it was just me, but over time, I added team members and had a thriving CFO consulting practice. As I converted to Business Coaching, those team members moved on, and I again found myself alone in my business. As I grew, I needed help with the backend of the business. I needed an Executive Assistant. I hired several people, but it never really worked out. Honestly, the people I hired were good people with experience and skills. In fact, I am still friends with them. It just never seemed to fit effortlessly. Again, I was trying to grow a Business Coaching organization by myself, doing things that were not my core strength. I still needed an Executive Assistant who fit well, but I was too scared by the past, so I just trudged along. In 2022, I attended a conference in another city. At that event, I met the woman who would eventually become my wife. She worked as an Executive Assistant to a Business Coach who was a friend of mine. It was love at first sight with Samantha Upkes, and as our relationship grew, we decided to move in together. Since we both worked from home, it was natural that we would occasionally observe each other's work. It became evident that she had skills that were my weaknesses, and I had skills that were her weaknesses. We both had similar aspirations to grow and expand. One day, she came to me and announced, “You’re a mess; you need me!” At first, I was defensive, but it didn’t take longer than a single night's sleep for me to realize she was right. We joined forces in January 2023 and are building a thriving Business Coaching organization together. We started small in 2005 and now work with clients throughout North America. It is interesting that with her handling everything that isn’t client-facing, I can work with more clients and accept more speaking engagements with relatively the same work effort as before. It is a win-win. We are an unstoppable husband-wife team of industry veterans with a different approach to Business Coaching. Our Fun, Engaging, and Collaborative process results in a high degree of growth and accountability for our clients. They actually achieve their goals, not just plan for them. Keep pursuing your goals! Fall is in the air... It's football season. We're spending more time in front of the TV watching games. The holidays are around the corner. We're talking about the holidays in our house, and maybe you are, too. It is easy to hunker down and coast through the remainder of the year. While it may seem like the year is almost over, the truth is that Q-4 just started. I was talking with a client last week, and they mentioned that they were short of their revenue target through Q-3. They were already talking about the year coming in short and giving up on the annual target. I reminded them that they still had 25% of the year to execute that goal. I challenged them not to give up on their company's future and settle for coming in short. Upon further reflection and discussion, we built a plan to get them back on target. They built their Q-4 Sprint Lanes, and they again believe they can achieve their goals. Wherever you are on your 2024 goals, keep going. In the spirit of Labor Day weekend, I am reminded that if we are doing the right work, it doesn’t feel like labor at all. Reflect upon your personal core purpose and your core values. Align the work you do with this higher purpose and those values because when you do, it gives you the energy and passion to carry on even on the hardest of days. When we are working with a strong sense of purpose, we are able to carry out the mission in the best way possible, bringing high value to our clients. My core purpose is “Inspiring people and teams to achieve their greatest potential… fully and freely.” I aim to do this in every interaction I have daily. Also, at this point in the quarter, I want to remind you that you still have 30 days left, so whether you are working with a coach or not, now is the time to pause, reflect on your quarterly goals, and make sure you have a solid plan to achieve them by September 30th. And… by the end of September, you should have your Q-4 quarterly goals identified and documented. Remember, Q-4 is the final sprint for the year, with a huge opportunity to finish strong and build momentum for the coming year.
