We're THANKFUL for the hearty group of Mimecast volunteers who joined us on November 25 to clean up along the Riverwalk in Waltham, MA. In two hours, we removed 10 bags of litter (about 250 pounds), along with a bicycle and a motorized scooter from this gorgeous Department of Conservation & Recreation property along the Charles River. We also ran into a friend from the Waltham Land Trust, which works hard to keep this area clean.

Aluminum is very recyclable and has a high market value. So make sure your roasting pan, loaf pans, pie plates and tin containers get recycled! Nips Net Huge Revenue Numbers For Municipal Budgets in Connecticut! Known as the “Nickel Per Nip Environmental Fee,” a five-cent surcharge is added to the price of a nip at the point of sale. This surcharge is then collected by wholesalers who disburse the funds to municipalities every six months in April and October, based on the number of nips sold there. Towns and cities are required by law to use the funds for environmental efforts to reduce the amount of solid waste generated in the municipality and the impact of litter. If this works in Connecticut, why not implement a deposit fee of 5 cents (or more) here in Massachusetts?

Southwest Airlines is bringing bamboo on board for new cups. The airline began rolling out the cups and wooden stir sticks following a yearlong R&D process. Southwest expects these changes will reduce its inflight single-use plastics by more than 1.5 million pounds annually.
