Keep Rockland Beautiful leads efforts to clean, protect, and beautify Rockland's environment by educating and empowering people to share in the care and stewardship of our communities. For more than 20 years our team has organized volunteer service projects that promote clean communities and a healthy environment, as well as educational programming for students of all ages. Our bi-annual cleanup campaigns engage thousands of volunteers to remove numerous tons of waste from local streets, parks, and waterways. Clean up on your own or join forces with your friends, family, classmates, or coworkers and make a difference in your community today! Earth BEAT, for students K-8, captivates students with a day of hands-on learning about local ecology, waste reduction, and energy conservation. Students experience fun, interactive eco-stations that make meaningful connections to class curriculum and state learning standards. All participants are encouraged to be responsible stewards of the environment and caretakers of their own health. Rockland PLUS introduces high school students to real-life planning issues and facilitates collaborative workshops to promote a community balance of social connections, economic opportunity, and environmental sensitivity. At the culminating symposium, students present their idea for local redevelopment and work with peers from schools throughout Rockland and with planning professionals to map out a vision for a selected site in the County.

"The visible effects of climate change in recent years have heightened public awareness and concerns about the future of the planet. Many companies have been eager to demonstrate their commitment to lowering carbon emissions, reducing waste and using water more efficiently by publicly pledging to reduce their environmental impact across one or more of those areas. A recent Veolia study focused on the sustainability goals of large firms found that by 2025 roughly half of firms will have some form of carbon, water or waste commitment such as Zero Waste to Landfill, Zero Liquid Discharge, and increases in efficiency, reuse, and recycling. This shift towards a “Triple Net Zero” mindset is encouraging." Today’s KRB Spotlight is on KRB Board President, Sara L. Tucker. Sara, a Piermont resident, is a Rockland County native. She spent the first 12 years of her life in Sloatsburg, then moved to NJ and NYC, only to come back to the County to live and raise a family 35 years ago! Sara has now been involved with Keep Rockland Beautiful and its efforts for 18 years! She first decided to join the board many years ago to represent the company she was working for (a large international bank), to further the company's corporate social mission of environmental concern and conservation.? Through this experience, she became very personally involved?in the efforts of KRB and wanted to lend her leadership and financial expertise, along with her ability to collaborate with many stakeholders. She is most passionate about “ensuring we are all involved in the effort to keep our communities clean and educate all about recycling.? Primarily, I want to educate the next generation about how we can all have a positive impact on the environment and we must work together as a community to broaden that impact.” Now retired from a very robust corporate life, she gains satisfaction from using her skills to help lead an organization that is doing important work in the community.??
