Stella McCartney transformed Kelsun? fiber into a beautifully hand-crocheted ecru knit featured in two garments in Stella’s Summer 2024 show. Celebrating fluidity and circularity at #ParisFashionWeek, Stella debuted the first-ever garments created from Kelsun, our seaweed-derived fiber designed to transform the #textile industry. In addition to the runway show, Marché Saxe-Breteuil in Paris was transformed into Stella’s Sustainable Market – comprising 21 stalls, inviting guests and the public to experience the pioneering innovators and materials featured in Stella’s latest collection. CLOTHING MADE FROM SEAWEED! ?? Share this video if you are excited by fashion innovation like this!??? Last month during New York Climate Week, we had the opportunity to meet Aleks Gosiewski and Tessa Callaghan, founders of Keel Labs and creators of the extraordinary Kelsun?? fibre! It is made entirely from seaweed biopolymers, and was designed with the planet in mind—waving BYE ?? to synthetic, plastic-derived fabrics that take millennia to biodegrade and clog up our landfills, oceans, and deserts. Their process of sourcing seaweed starts in the ocean, eliminating the need for arable land or any harmful pesticides. Seaweed is a resilient crop that has a wide range of ecological benefits and is super fast-growing! Plus, the seaweed sourced for Kelsun?? isn’t taken from wildlife habitats, but instead is grown within the global seaweed industry framework, wherein seaweed is ‘farmed’ for consumption and uses like this! This solution fits directly into the existing globalised textile infrastructure, making it a solution that can be implemented right away! This material has so far been used for a shirt in partnership with Outerknown.?As well as an elegant dress and handbag with Stella McCartney. With so many pieces of clothing today made using fossil fuel based fabrics like polyester, we need to support the readoption of regenerative natural materials.
