KEDPLASMA specializes in the collection of high-quality plasma that is processed into plasma-based therapies to respond to patients’ needs the world over. KEDPLASMA is a subsidiary of Kedrion Biopharma, an international company that produces and distributes plasma-derived medicinal products for use in treating serious disorders such as hemophilia and immune system deficiencies. KEDPLASMA owns collection centers in the US. Plasma cannot be produced artificially. It is obtained only through the generosity of donors - volunteers who contribute a precious donation to others. KEDPLASMA seeks to increase donor participation by making donation easy, comfortable and safe and by educating donors about how their donations help Keep Life Flowing.     Did you know that plasma-derived medicines are used for everyday medical needs? For instance, Rh immunoglobulins (RhIg) are used to treat pregnant women with Rh incompatibility. During pregnancy, a mismatch in the type of rhesus (Rh) factor (a protein found on the surface of red blood cells), between a mother and fetus can lead to hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). Rh incompatibility occurs when a Rh-negative mother is carrying a Rh-positive fetus. In that case, the mother’s immune system sees the red blood cells of the fetus as foreign and develops antibodies which attack them. This can cause severe anemia in the fetus or newborn, as well as jaundice as the broken-down red blood cells produce bilirubin. The level of bilirubin in the infant's blood may range from mild to dangerously high. Plasma-derived Rh immunoglobulins (RhIg) administered during pregnancy can neutralize the fetus’s Rh-positive red blood cells, preventing maternal sensitization and HDN. Every year during the first week of October, we unite to raise global awareness about the importance of plasma donation, recognize the valued contributions of donors, and emphasize the role of plasma protein therapies in treating rare and life-threatening diseases. Plasma — the straw-colored, liquid portion of blood — contains proteins essential for the human body to perform critical functions, such as creating antibodies to fight disease and clotting factors to regulate bleeding. When someone has insufficient levels of plasma proteins, their body cannot carry out these vital processes, leading to chronic and life-threatening conditions.
