Let's congratulate our March Hornet Award winner, Julie Dinnan. Julie is a lifelong Hornet and retired as the Director of our The Pumpkin Patch. In retirement, she has returned as a special education paraeducator at Kearsley High School. Julie provides incredible support in the classroom daily and is beloved by her students. She also assists with Special Olympics and Unified Basketball. Julie was honored at the March Board Meeting and is pictured with Superintendent Paul Gaudard and Board of Education President Robert Ploof. February's Hornet Award: Pat Gerace, Kearsley High School On January 9, 2025, during the fire incident at the construction site of our Community Recreation Center, Mr. Gerace demonstrated his leadership skills. Excerpt of nomination: Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Mr. Gerace immediately stated that we needed to move the students to the hallway for safety and took action without hesitation. As a first responder, he made a decisive and independent choice to ensure the students' well-being—without waiting for direction from administrators. His ability to remain clear-headed and act swiftly in the face of crisis was commendable. While every staff member played an important role that day, Mr. Gerace’s quick thinking and immediate response were crucial at the onset of the situation. December's Hornet Award: Jerry Williams, Buffey Early Childhood Center Excerpt from nominations: "Jerry Williams is our new building-wide custodian. He goes above and beyond every single day. He makes sure The Pumpkin Patch is spotless. Whenever we need him to help with cleanup or restocking things he is right there. He also engages with the kids and makes them laugh while we are in the hallway. They love their conversations with him." Dr. Charles Wade was recognized at the December Board meeting and celebrated for his eight years of service on Kearsley's Board of Education. During his tenure, he served in every officer position. He values education, and participated in countless hours of board member professional development. Dr. Wade is the Department Chair of Biological Sciences at Mott Community College. David Hall, Sandra O'Dell and Kearsley High School students shared an update on our Project SEARCH partnership with Meijer Store 29 on Center Road at December's Board of Education meeting. The students are enjoying their internships with Meijer and are learning employability skills. Meijer staff members value our Kearsley interns and their hard work. KHS Student Representative Brianna Sierra attended the Student Leaders School Board Conference at the Genesee Intermediate School District. She gave an overview of the conference and shared lessons learned with the Board. Her drive to have a positive impact on all Kearsley students is something that has not gone unnoticed. Her compassion for the students is evident in her lessons and extends beyond the classroom to helping out with field trips and making other investments.
