Maya Angelou was a civil rights activist, poet, and performing artist. Despite having a traumatic childhood, she persevered and began a successful career in the theatre. She received a Tony Award nomination for her role in "Look Away" and an Emmy for her performance in "Roots." Maya later became a powerful writer. She joined the Harlem Writers Guild and collaborated with many Black artists, including James Baldwin. One of her most recognizable written works is her autobiography and poem called "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." She passed away in 2014, but her powerful work continues to inspire people to this day. #BlackHistoryMonth #MayaAngelou #Poetry

During one of our recent #KDVisits, Chief of College Counseling Services Ashley McCarrick visited Harvey Mudd College, located in Claremont, CA. This small private college is recognized as one of the country's top programs for undergraduate studies in math, science, and engineering. A fun fact about the campus is that it was constructed using large concrete squares, which students refer to as "warts."
