Comanche Construction, Inc. Crews Work on Streetcar Extension Tie-In
The KC Streetcar Authority announced on Monday that service will be halted to allow crews to complete a crucial "tie-in" connecting the current downtown route to the new extension. This suspension is expected to last approximately four weeks, beginning on September 30, 2024.
To expedite the construction, KC Streetcar Constructors will be working around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
During the service disruption, a dedicated "Streetcar Link" RideKC bus line will operate along the streetcar's usual stops to maintain transit service.
Additionally, northbound Main Street between Pershing Road and 20th Street will close on September 23 and is expected to reopen once the work is completed.
WHY THE SERVICE SUSPENSION IS NECESSARY
This service suspension is necessary in order to connect the existing downtown streetcar system to the Main Street Extension tracks.
Comanche Construction, Inc. crews will:
? Remove the existing crossover located north of Pershing Road.
? Replace expansion joints on the Main Street Viaduct.
? Weld rail and construct the final northbound and southbound track needed in the intersection.
? Pour the final bridge deck on the Main Street Viaduct.
? Curb & Gutter Work & Latex Modified Overlays
