Last night, the Commercial Real Estate Group wrapped up the semester with Building Blocks: CRE Community & Affordability Discussion, an insightful panel featuring Geoff Koski (KB Advisory Group), Alan Ferguson, Sr., Ph.D. (Atlanta Housing), Eric Pinckney (The Integral Group), and Adria Hollis (Dominium). Our speakers shared their journeys, experiences, and challenges within the industry, offering a deep dive into the complexities of affordable housing. The discussion covered the distinctions between public and private affordable housing, the historical evolution of affordable housing from its origins supporting veterans, and the ongoing challenges of financing and tenant selection. As we close out the semester, we are grateful to our panelists for their insights and to all our members for their engagement and passion. Together, we’ve laid the foundation for meaningful conversations about the future of commercial real estate, and we can’t wait to continue building on this momentum in the semesters to come. President Geoff Koski was quoted in a recent Atlanta Business Chronicle (paywalled) article about the recent rejection of a transportation sales tax in Gwinnett County. “We’ve got a lack of options, and we don’t move around the region the way other regions do...We’re not functioning as efficiently as a local economy without being fully connected with transit...Expanding transit could help Gwinnett and Cobb compete for white-collar jobs. [It] unlocks the potential to build denser development with housing and amenities – attractive qualities to office tenants looking to retain and recruit workers." #economicdevelopment #transit #connectivity #economicgrowth
