Now, tipped employees only lose their status if they take on tasks outside their tipped roles—not because of time spent on untipped work. For local restaurants, this ruling could offer some relief, especially for those struggling to meet payroll. ?? But let’s not forget—our waitstaff depends on tips to make a living. Quiet vacationing?or taking time off work without informing your boss has now become a thing. In May, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,050 corporate workers with PTO benefits. The results are eye-opening: ?? 2 in 5 workers worry about job security when taking PTO. ?? 1 in 10 quietly vacationed last year. ?? Anxiety is the top reason workers avoid using PTO. ?? 1 in 8 plans to quietly vacation this summer. ?? 1 in 4 at companies without “Summer Fridays” will do it anyway. Why the stealthy getaways? ?? 33% are too anxious to ask for time off. ?? 31% don’t want to use PTO. ?? 30% think it makes them look lazy. ?? 29% fear layoffs. ? 26% had requests denied. ? 23% have no PTO left. For all other employers in Texas and around the U.S., the rule takes effect in two phases: ??Phase 1: July 1 Salary Threshold: Increase from $35,568 per year ($684 per week) to $43,888 per year ($844 per week) ??Phase 2: January 1, 2025 Salary Threshold: Increase to $58,656 per year ($1,128 per week) ??Further Increases: Automatic every three years Starting Date: July 1, 2027 What to do next? ? ?? Reclassify employees to non-exempt ?? Shift job duties ?? Perform (FLSA) Duties Test ??     May all the job seekers find their golden ticket, and may the leaders searching for talent find their star! While we continue to see mass layoffs affecting businesses and employees, the current state of the workplace is unsettling for many. These layoffs have also significantly affected small businesses that provide these large companies with contractors. Yet, other companies are actively searching for talent and need help finding the right candidate, and job seekers have not been placed for a long time, as we often read on LinkedIn. I share this because watching this video inspired me to think about how an interview can be life-changing. Sydnie Christmas's audition?changed her life—and also the lives of whatever agent, record label, musicians, backup singers, and producers get to work with her. She has been working the Front of House at a gym but didn’t give up on her dream job. For her audition, she performed a well-known song that Simon disliked. Her mission was to do it so well that it would change his mind, and it did. Now, because of an audition, her life is forever changed, whether she wins this contest or not. To job seekers, where can you apply to pursue your dream job? Are you so prepared that in that interview, you will change the minds of those judging you with their preset ideologies and blow them away? What can you do differently with the same old song that will make you stand out? To leaders, open your minds and do not be against what you think you need. If they are a certain age, they are not a fit. If they are a mom, they are not a fit. If they look like Big Bird, they are not a fit. If they sing this song, I'm not even listening.
