关于我们

Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center, Children In Crisis, Inc. was founded in 2003, is a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center by the NCA-CAC standards and a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving abused and neglected families from Dorchester and Berkeley Counties in the state of South Carolina. Our center provides a coordinated, evidence-based response to allegations of child abuse and neglect. We work with children who may have experienced any type of abuse or neglect such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, child neglect, drug endangerment, witness to domestic violence, and safety precaution. Since opening our doors, we have served over 12,500 children and their families. The Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center works in collaboration with partnering agencies for the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse. Our partnering agencies include Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, Mental Health, School Districts, and many more. All the agencies come together at our Child Advocacy Center to provide a “one-stop shop” and child friendly location for children only have to tell their story of abuse once, rather than each professional involved with their case. By coordinating services among partnering agencies, it prevents further trauma to children and their families. Mission: To provide a coordinated, research-proven response to child abuse that reduces trauma for the children and families in our community in a safe, child-focused environment. Vision: To help build communities in which children and families live free from abuse and are free to reach their full potential. Services: Forensic Interviews, Forensic Medical Exams, Trauma Therapy Treatment, Child Abuse Prevention, Community Training Check out our social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dorchesterchildrenscenter/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dorchestercac/

Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center rebrands as the Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center! In coordination with the opening of our new Berkeley Center, we have been working tirelessly this year on rebranding the center name and logo. The new location would have added a second dba and a third name for the organization, which makes it confusing and hard to navigate. That is why, beginning today, we have officially gone from Children in Crisis, doing business as Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center and Berkeley Children’s Advocacy Center to a single name to honor the woman whose 20 years of service shaped this Center into what it is today. We are elated to announce that we will now be known as the Kay Phillips Child Advocacy Center! This change was championed by members of both the Children in Crisis Board of Directors and Center Staff, and was unanimously approved at the March Board of Directors meeting. Board President Tony Pope, says, “The center has grown into what it is today because of Dr. Phillips’ hard work and dedication to improving the lives of children and families in our communities, and we are elated to announce this change.” As a leader in the child welfare community, Dr. Phillips has brought about substantial changes in her 20 year tenure at Children in Crisis, which provides treatment at no cost for child abuse victims and their families in Dorchester and Berkeley counties, and where she has orchestrated growth of the organization, which now serves over 1,600 clients annually.

Last week, four DCAC staff members?were a part of the first group of facilitators to be trained in South Carolina's newest human trafficking prevention initiative, TraffickProofSC.??This initiative consists of a series of age appropriate videos and curricula for middle and high school students, and provides an opportunity for youth to engage in conversation to understand what human trafficking is and what to do if they have concerns for a human trafficking situation.??If your school or community group is interested in receiving this prevention training, we are available to assist!??

We are SO thankful to everyone who made a donation to our End of Year Campaign, helping us to meet and exceed Dr. Robert Blackard's matching gift of $30,000! A heartfelt THANK YOU to Dr. and and Mrs. Blackard for their unwavering support of our center and for their commitment to ensuring that children have the opportunity to grow up safe, healthy, and strong. We are forever grateful to you both! With Dr. Blackard's match, an influx of last minute gifts, and an extremely generous corporate donation of $50,000 from Landmark Construction, we are excited to announce that we raised more than $140,000 in support of our programs and services; inching us closer to our vision of creating communities in which children and families live free from abuse and neglect, and are free to reach their full potential. Wishing you all a safe, happy, and prosperous 2024!
