Last month, the Kautz-Uible Economics Institute had the privilege of welcoming distinguished economist Katrine L?ken, PhD, of the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) to the University of Cincinnati as the speaker for this year's James C. Kautz Lecture. Dr. L?ken's research focuses on early investments in children, long-term outcomes of social policies, and the economics of crime. In 2017, she was the recipient of the prestigious Nils Klim Prize, recognizing her outstanding contributions as a young Nordic scholar in the social sciences. In her enlightening talk, "The Paradox of Punishment: How Norway's Kindness Conquers Crime," Dr. L?ken explored the country's innovative approach to criminal justice and its surprising effectiveness in reducing crime rates. We express our sincere thanks to Dr. L?ken for such an insightful lecture! Since 1993, the Kautz Lecture series has featured internationally recognized economists for a day of engagement at the?University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business. Thank you to all who attended this year and to TapIn for verifying student in-person attendance of this event.
