  • It’s Winning Women Wednesday! This month we are proud to highlight Jennifer Barnett, owner of Dry A.F. Craft Beverage Shop in Schoharie. Jennifer was a hairstylist for 24 years prior to opening her beverage shop and brought her salon clientele to her small building at 283 Main Street Schoharie in 2019. Jennifer was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2021 and knew she needed to turn her Main Street location into a different, less physically demanding job and bring additional retail to Schoharie's quaint business strip. Jennifer found that alcohol made her symptoms worse and discovered there weren’t many options in the area for NA beverages. Thus, Dry A.F. was born. Today the shop carries a variety of NA beverages from small, women, and minority-owned businesses including alcohol free wine, beer, mock spirits, hemp, herbal and mushroom-infused beverages and even farm-crafted sodas for kids. When not running her business or working her other two jobs, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her dogs, gardening and kayaking. She also serves on Schoharie’s Comprehensive Plan Committee, helping to shape the future of the community and volunteers for the village food pantry on Saturday mornings. In the future, Jennifer hopes to expand her business hours and plans to open a second location in Schenectady. KathodeRay is amazed by how Jennifer did not let MS define her and used her lived experience to make a meaningful contribution to the Schoharie business community!

Her company, Modern Soapmaking LLC, offers educational resources and consulting to aspiring soap makers, while the retail side of the business manufactures and sells soap at the Mineral Springs Soap shop in Cobleskill. • It’s Winning Women Wednesday! This month we are proud to highlight Joan Wissert, owner of Middleburgh Mercantile. As an artisan herself, Joan understands how difficult it is to constantly be loading up the car with goods and taking them to markets. After relocating from Western New York to Middleburgh, she noticed a void in the area of shops catering to local artisans. Her dream for Middleburgh Mercantile was to have a permanent location where local artisans could sell their goods. Soon customers will be able to order products online, with the help of a Digital Marketing Grant from Schoharie Economic Enterprise Corporation (SEEC). In addition to running her business, Joan is active in the local Rotary club, as well as designing and promoting Shop Local initiatives. She also enjoys repurposing items in her spare time. In the future, Joan wants to continue to offer high quality locally made goods at fair prices. KathodeRay commends Joan for making her dream into a reality! #winningwomen

  • It’s Winning Women Wednesday! This month we are proud to highlight Lisa Tenneson, owner of Four Star Realty Group, Inc. Lisa’s dream of working in Real Estate began with her love for homes, design, and connecting with people. Just two weeks after graduating high school, she went to Real Estate school and loved it. Life took her in a different direction at first though, with a corporate job, but even then she was passionate about running her own business. She always had a side businesses, including at one point a traveling petting zoo. Traveling back and forth between New Jersey and New York, Lisa decided to get her NY Real Estate License and started building her Real Estate clientele. This was the start of her path to owning Four Star Realty Group. Lisa’s love for her community drives her to serve a large area in NY, and she's currently expanding her entrepreneurial spirit by opening a soda shop, Forget Me Not Pop Shop, next to her office. Despite the challenges Lisa faced during Hurricane Irene when both her home and office were destroyed by the flooding, her resilience and compassion have shaped her into successful women she is today. When she sees a need in the community, she seeks to fill it - she hopes her soda shop will become a fun place for kids to hang out, and enjoys mentoring new realtors. In her spare time, Lisa also enjoys hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing with her spouse. Lisa loves to see people grow and be successful in her community and loves that the Middleburgh Branch Rotary Club in Schoharie County does so much for the community and people. KathodeRay applauds Lisa Tenneson for being so positive and upbeat and her resilience she has for her community and the people in her community. #winningwomen
