?? 2024 AIA Wisconsin Design Award Winner Highlight ?? Congratulations to RINKA and project architect Matt Rinka, AIA as a recipient of a 2024 AIA Wisconsin Merit Award, recognizing exceptional work in a focused area of design. The YMCA commissioned the creation of a new bath and shower house, known as the "Kybo," for Camp Minikani in Hubertus, 18 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Designed to serve the Explorer Unit of campers, the Kybo addresses the urgent need for nearby communal shower and restroom facilities, replacing the previous arrangement that required campers to undertake mid-night journeys to distant facilities. At 1,600 square feet, the Kybo accommodates both male and female campers securely, providing a compact yet comprehensive solution that upholds the camp's values of social engagement, outdoor experience, and spontaneous learning. The design of the Kybo took careful consideration of the topography and natural landscape, with the team selecting a central location that preserved mature trees and minimized environmental impact. Featuring simple, shared plumbing walls and separate entries for shower and restroom functions, the building ensures safety and secure access. The transformation of the bathhouse into a destination is marked by "The Lantern," a shared outdoor entry and gathering space that emits a warm glow at night, signaling a safe and inviting place for campers. The design, with its long horizontal lines, light standing seam roof, and board-and-batten cladding, blends seamlessly into the landscape while maintaining a low ecological impact. By enriching the communal experience and fostering personal growth, the Kybo exemplifies innovative design that enhances the natural context of Camp Minikani. The project reimagines the traditional bathroom as a multifunctional gathering space, meeting practical needs while inspiring lasting connections and memorable experiences, reinforcing the YMCA's dedication to enhancing the camper experience and fostering a sense of belonging in the great outdoors. It's IT Professionals Day, and we want to thank Joe Fleischfresser, Randy Kohlman, Christopher Rhine, Rolando Dominguez, and Cas Sanchez for all that they do to keep Kapur running! We couldn't do what we do without them, and their hard work and dedication is incredibly appreciated!

We want to recognize the incredible work Kapur crews have done with the Cannelton Hydroelectric Power Plant in Hawesville, KY and the Holtwood Hydroelectric Power Plant in Holtwood, PA! In helping to construct the three-unit bulb turbine-type powerhouse adjacent to the existing Cannelton Locks and Dam, Kapur helped the 79 AMP member communities participating in the project receive power from the 84 MW capacity facility. With Kapur scanning all existing infrastructure and terrain as survey lead, we helped prepare for the movement of 1.3 million cubic yards of rock excavation and 300,000 yards of soil excavation, 125 MW of generating capacity were added to more than double the current output along the Susquehanna River in Holtwood.

It was an honor yesterday to be named the Second Place Extra-Large Category winner of The Milwaukee Business Journal 2024 Best Places To Work! The big reveal occurred during a rockstar-themed reception held at the Summerfest grounds, and we couldn’t be more thankful to have received such amazing feedback from our staff via an anonymous survey about their work experience at Kapur! It’s official - congratulations to staff engineer Kyle Samann on becoming our newest PE! A member of the site design department in Kapur’s Downtown Milwaukee office, Kyle has contributed to projects ranging from educational institutions to athletic complexes and commercial facilities, and we’re excited to see all that he’s able to accomplish moving forward! “Earning my professional engineering license not only recognizes the knowledge and hard work I’ve invested in my career so far but also signifies a heightened responsibility to engineer for the betterment of society and the environment. I eagerly anticipate utilizing my skills further to assist our clients in meeting and enhancing their infrastructure needs.”

Honored to be featured, the trio will discuss “Partnering with Local Governments and the Community” while highlighting the work as part of the Reimagining WIS 175 Study.
