We are thrilled to have received an ?? Eagle Award ?? from Associated Builders and Contractors of Massachusetts for our work on Castle Island's new brewery in South Boston! Located within an existing industrial building, the brewery features a 4,000 SF main tasting room, a retail area, private event space, and a brewhouse with seven 10-barrel tanks. During construction, Kaplan discovered unexpected conditions in the century-old building, including an unusually thick concrete slab, underground obstructions, and deteriorated plumbing. Other key challenges included working within the building’s compact footprint and overcoming the impacts of COVID-19. It was a true collaboration among Kaplan, Joe Stromer, and Castle Island. As we celebrate Construction Inclusion Week, we’re proud to spotlight one of our valued MBE subcontractors, NHK Electrical Contractors. This family-owned business, led by Glen and Marquita Kelley, spans over 60 years. The journey began in the 1960s with Abe Kelley Electrical, founded by Glen’s uncle Abraham Kelley who served as an electrical lineman in the U.S. Army. Two decades later, Glen’s father, Ned H. Kelley, established NHK Electrical, which continues to carry the family name. Glen started working with both his uncle and father in the late 1980s and eventually took the helm, becoming the third generation to lead the Dorchester-based business. NHK has partnered with Kaplan on projects in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Jamaica Plain for nearly a decade. For Glen and Marquita, being an MBE contractor represents independence and the chance to create opportunities for their peers. As Glen puts it, it's about "building up his community." At Kaplan, we believe that integrating diversity into our subcontractor and supplier teams strengthens us by bringing fresh perspectives and driving innovation. We formally celebrated the completion of Leyland Community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, featuring remarks from City of Boston officials, Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, Hebrew SeniorLife, and current Leyland residents! The new five-story senior housing development includes 43 units, including five designed for individuals with mobility, hearing, and visual impairments. To build something that serves and creates a lasting impact on an entire community, especially the aging community, is truly fulfilling as a contractor.

We had a fantastic time at last week’s ribbon cutting to celebrate Sportsmen's Tennis & Enrichment Center's brand new four-court indoor facility in Dorchester. As part of their major capital improvements initiative, the expansion boosts indoor capacity by nearly 60%, allowing for a wider range of programs and tournaments. We're honored to have been the builder for a project that supports both the local and broader tennis community.
