The Kansas Public Health Association (KPHA) is the leading professional organization for public health practitioners, advocates, and professionals in Kansas. As the voice of public health in the state, KPHA serves as a vital platform for collaboration, bringing together individuals and organizations committed to creating conditions in which Kansans can lead healthy, fulfilling lives. KPHA addresses a wide array of critical public health issues, from securing federal and state funding for health programs to promoting environmental health, pollution control, and policies addressing chronic and infectious diseases. We are strong advocates for a smoke-free society and prioritize professional education to advance public health knowledge and practice. With a multidisciplinary membership that includes researchers, health service providers, administrators, educators, and other public health professionals, KPHA fosters a unique environment for professional exchange, learning, and collective action. We proudly represent over 800 members from more than 50 diverse professions and organizations, uniting them in the shared mission to improve the health of all Kansans. Founded in 1920, KPHA has played a pivotal role in shaping health policies and priorities in Kansas for over a century. Our efforts have led the way in preventing disease and promoting health, continuously evolving to meet the changing needs of our communities. KPHA is proudly affiliated with the American Public Health Association (APHA), one of the foremost public health organizations globally. With over 25,000 members from across the U.S. and more than 40 countries, APHA amplifies the voice of public health on a national and global scale. One thing we love at KPHA is bringing different partners together who value community health and wellbeing. We enjoyed having the Kansas Pharmacists Association join this year’s KPHA conference. We look forward to continuing collaborations with different sectors

Public health and pharmacy overlap in many ways and share similar challenges as we strive to serve our communities with too much to do and too few resources to work with. We were excited to connect with public health leaders from across Region 7 during the recent MINK Conference, themed "Forming Transformative Public Health Leaders." Leaders from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas came together to share insights and initiatives. It was inspiring to learn about the incredible work being done by our peers and to showcase some of KPHA's initiatives—like our KPHA Advocacy Toolkit and the newly launched Public Health Advocate and Champion Certificate Program. ?? The day kicked off with our President, Ruaa Hassaballa, joining fellow state Presidents for the "State of the States" panel. Brandon Skidmore and Jason Tiller led a powerful panel discussion on "Leadership to Advance Change," while Kansas Health Institute, Douglas County, Nebraska, and KPHA led a workshop on Authentic Storytelling. Health departments are short 80,000 public health workers, which means employees often must take on multiple roles and projects beyond the ones they were hired for. This makes it difficult for health departments to meet the service needs of the community. ? CDC’s Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) funded 107 health departments to increase the size and capabilities of the public health workforce around the country. PHIG’s flexible funding gives public health workers the ability to meet current service needs and handle complex health situations today and in the future. https://bit.ly/3R4WG78
