What does it take to create real change? KU students explored this question during Empowering Students for Civic Leadership, a workshop led by Civic Engagement Manager Anisah Ari, Ph.D., on the KU campus at the end of February. Using the KLC framework, students dug into what holds communities back from progress, learned to distinguish technical problems from adaptive challenges, and practiced strategies to bring people together for action. Through case studies and hands-on exercises, they sharpened their ability to ask powerful questions and drive change. This workshop was part of a campus-wide event connecting students with organizations working to strengthen KU, Lawrence and Douglas County. By the end, participants walked away with fresh insights, practical leadership tools and a deeper commitment to making an impact. Jason Bosch, Ed.D., teamed up with their teacher to explore fresh ways to engage students in leadership learning. ?? Their insights will shape what comes next! Now, we’re diving into our second pilot with Young Women on the Move in Kansas City. This summer, we’re partnering Destination Innovation Inc and Upward Bound Wichita Prep @ Wichita State University to keep the momentum going. ??
