Hosting teams from our trade partners is just one of the ways the Kansas Department of Agriculture works to connect Kansas producers with new market opportunities. In October, KDA welcomed a beef genetics trade team from Canada, and took them to visit several seedstock operations in eastern Kansas. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gpjDEcJ4

Supporting all facets of agriculture is central to KDA’s mission, including facilitating opportunities for producers to market and sell livestock genetics both domestically and internationally. A recent equine trade mission was made possible through KDA’s membership in U.S. Livestock Genetics Export, Inc. (USLGE) with USDA Market Access Program funding and in partnership with the American Paint Horse Association. https://lnkd.in/gYCgzTtr

Northeast KS (Topeka) meeting saw new criteria emerge, focusing more on efficiency/cost effectiveness with lots of discussion about leveraging private and federal funds. When it came to goal of assuring every Kansan/community has access to 50-years or more water supply, many said that we need to extend that timeline to 100+ years and others worried about what happens to communities if water isn't available sooner or later. Several folks voiced the view that Kansas has "underfunded" water investments for too long. Regarding the $140M/annual scenario, many said that's either too low or a reasonable investment level if programs/projects can be delivered and results reported. Kansans are doing a great job with these difficult discussions. I look forward to 4 meetings next week KANSAS WATER OFFICE Kansas Department of Agriculture Kansas Department of Health and Environment

From Dodge City today: the same "final 4" criteria emerged in the Northwest and Southwest (though #1 and #2 swapped places), with geographic balance being the write-in criterion in both regions of Kansas. Shared criteria are important to build a dynamic, statewide water program to be responsive to changing needs over 10 years while remaining true to stakeholder values. Shared criteria help with tough tradeoff decisions and would be used as a "deciding factor" when all other things are equal. This factor(s) might be weighted differently or measured differently in different programs, but the goal would be for all water programs and strategies to use at least one of the shared criteria. On to Topeka for the 3rd water local consult meeting - will we see any new criterion in the final 4 tomorrow?
