Butler of the Kansas City Star, December 4th, 1981 In 1981, Missouri Repertory Theatre (KCRep) began Kansas City’s favorite holiday tradition, A CHRISTMAS CAROL! Directed by James Assad, adapted by Barbara Field, and starring Peter Umbras as Ebenezer Scrooge, this production took the city by storm and was called “a great way to catch the holiday spirit” by the Kansas City Star. In 2024 and over 40 productions later, many families around The Metro still use A CHRISTMAS CAROL as a celebratory kick off to their holiday traditions.
