Kansas Special Interim Committee Unanimously Supports KBA Proposed Changes for Public Funds Investment! KBA's Doug Wareham & Alex Orel, KBA Board Past Chairman Mark Schifferdecker, GNBanK and Tom Pruitt, People's Bank & Trust testified this week before the Special Committee on Centralized Pooled Collateral and Pooled Money Investment Board (PMIB) Modernization on the importance of keeping public funds in their local financial institutions. They encouraged the Kansas Legislature to review several policy recommendations to strengthen our Kansas public funds laws. After two days of hearing testimony, we are proud to report the committee unanimously supported and recommended to the 2025 Legislative Session several of KBA's proposed policy changes, including the creation of a centralized pooled collateral program, adjusting the statutory rate that banks must pay for local deposits, and adjusting the rate for investment in the PMIB's CD program, including providing more attractive options for Kansas banks. ?The Committee also recommended reexamining the Kansas Linked Deposit Programs in a separate bill.
