On Tuesday, 3 December 2024, Kanlungan had the privilege of leading a vital discussion as part of the Royal College of Art's Annual Research Programme on the School of Architecture's?“Spectral Labours: Architecture for Whom?”?series. Our Campaigns and Advocacy Manager, Christanghelo Francisco Godino Barde, grounded the conversation in Marxist Political Economy, highlighting the struggles of Filipino migrants caught between the Philippines' Labour Export Policy and the UK’s Hostile Environment Policy. The discussion was enriched by the powerful testimonies of Filipino Domestic Workers, shared by Phoebe Dimacali, bringing human stories to the forefront of this systemic issue. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organisers and RCA City Design staff for inviting us to speak. Spaces like these are rare but essential for amplifying the voices of migrant workers and exposing systems of oppression. Together, we continue to build networks of solidarity to win that will fight for the rights of people. #SpectralLabours #ArchitectureForWhom #Migration #WorkersRights #Solidarity #Kanlungan #RCA

Last night, Kanlungan proudly joined the EU Citizen’s Summit, hosted by?the3million?to stand in solidarity with all migrants in the UK. We represented Filipino-EU migrants affected by Brexit and the EU Settlement Scheme, and supported the manifesto advocating for the rights of every migrant in the UK. Together, we amplify the voices of all who face these challenges. ?

On #MayDay, we honour the hands and hearts of #MigrantWorkers, whose labours aren't always just. Those working in farms often face unfair practices in the workplace, like working without pay or being placed in living accommodations without heating. Carers and nurses often take on the invisible toll of caring for their families while looking after the needs of others. And of course, being employed from the great distance of another country results in the emotional labours of cultural assimilation as well — on top of the labours of being the family's breadwinner. ? And so we strive for the improvement and the enactment of migrants' rights, today and every day, until all labour is recognised as such. Happy #LabourDay to all! ?
