We deliver fresh, healthy and affordable food to local businesses in neighborhoods lacking access.
关于我们
Kanbe’s Markets provides access to fresh, healthy foods in the areas of Kansas City designated by the USDA as a “food desert”, where residents lack consistent access to healthy and affordable food. Our goal is to eliminate food insecurity by providing a distribution model that includes more people, enhances small businesses, and improves communities, one neighborhood at a time.

Exciting news! Kanbe’s Markets is expanding to Kansas! With support from?Reinvestment Fund's HFFI Planning Grant Program and Kansas Health Foundation, we’re bringing Healthy Corner Stores to 25 locations in Wyandotte County. This expansion allows us to distribute fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables to 100,000 more residents, many with limited access to grocery stores. “Hunger and food insecurity are issues in Kansas that can no longer be ignored,” said Ed O’Malley, KHF President and CEO. We're happy to be part of this transformative effort and are committed to making a lasting impact on food access and community well-being. We are deeply grateful for our incredible collaboration with Saint Luke’s with the launch of our voucher initiative. At Kanbe's we believe that food is medicine. We also recognize that building a healthier, stronger community is about more than just what’s on our plates—it’s also about how we come together to care for one another. We are excited to work with Saint Luke's to amplify these core values we hold so dear. Together, we are working to create a lasting change in Kansas City.
Saint Luke’s is excited to collaborate with Kanbe's Markets on a voucher program to help reduce food insecurity and provide healthier foods to more Kansas City residents. Kanbe’s Markets is a nonprofit organization that works closely with locally owned gas stations and corner stores to provide access to fresh, affordable, and healthy foods to people experiencing food insecurity. Their approach ensures nutritious foods reach those who need them most, making a difference in our community’s well-being. Brad, a longtime Saint Luke's patient, recently learned of the voucher program when evaluating next steps with his primary care doctor following a hospitalization. Thanks to the vouchers, he's benefitted from the fruits and vegetables available at Kanbe's Markets. "Everything was in season, and the people at Saint Luke’s and Kanbe’s were excellent," said Brad. According to Marsha Weaver, MD, vice president and chief population health officer at Saint Luke’s, about 80% of a person’s health is related to their social drivers of health, with access to healthy foods serving as one of those key factors. “Saint Luke’s is committed to helping reduce barriers to health in our community so every person in the Kansas City area can achieve their full health potential,” said Dr. Weaver. Kanbe’s plans to expand its food voucher program with other health care systems to extend healthy food access throughout Kansas City. Read more: https://heyor.ca/Duj4lh
