Congrats to the City of Walker and the entire community on the new Bristol Avenue tunnel! The new dual Conspan tunnel system provides two-way traffic, safe pedestrian access and 14 ft clearance - a significant improvement from the obsolete single tunnel design. Congratulations to the City of Walker and everyone who travels Bristol Avenue! The long-awaited, reconstructed Bristol Avenue is now open! At M+B, we're fortunate to work on exciting projects, and this one has been particularly rewarding. For the past three years, we've collaborated with the City of Walker to rebuild the Bristol/Pannell intersection, including a brand-new railroad bridge. If you've ever navigated the old intersection, you know the challenges of squeezing under a low, narrow bridge while hoping for no oncoming traffic. The old bridge was a frequent target for taller trucks that misjudged its height. The new bridge is a significant improvement, with a clearance of over 14 feet and enough width to accommodate two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian sidewalk. And for the engineering enthusiasts: The bridge is supported by 76 piles, each 50 feet long, capable of handling up to 200,000 pounds. This impressive strength is essential to support locomotives weighing over 500,000 pounds (or even a fully loaded 747!). To achieve the increased clearance, the train tracks were raised four feet, and the road was lowered 2.5 feet. We're proud to have been part of this transformative project.
