We are saddened to share the passing of Carl Wapiennik, former director of the Buhl Planetarium in the 1960s. Carl’s leadership helped shape the planetarium’s legacy as a hub for astronomy education in Pittsburgh, inspiring generations to look up and wonder. His dedication to science and learning continues to resonate in the work we do today at the Science Center. We honor his contributions and extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones.

The “Mental Health: Mind Matters” exhibition is already sparking conversations on mental health and creating connections. ???? "To be able to learn about it, you see the reality of it. When you see that, you are like, oh wait, I know someone struggling with this. You are able to speak to people and say, 'you can come to me.'" -Arya Z. Thank you for visiting, Zevallos family and KDKA-TV!

Ebenezer Baptist Church, home of the oldest Baptist congregation in Pittsburgh dating back to 1875, stood as a pillar for the burgeoning Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The church hosted the National Urban League Conference, as well as Civil Rights activists Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Jesse Jackson. Tragically, an electrical fire broke out in 2004, and two firefighters lost their lives when the bell tower collapsed as the crew fought the blaze. To honor those firefighters, the Miniature Railroad staff constructed the model’s bell tower with scorched wood from the original structure. The model also houses a small time capsule with firefighter patches and remembrances from the congregation and community. #BlackHistoryMonth
