On February 26, KRESA Career Connect’s youth program participant, Kadence, and her Career Coach Mya visited to the State Capitol Building in Lansing for Legislative Day with Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG). Kadence was able to speak to legislators and representatives and got to meet Senator Sean McCann and Representative Julie Rogers. Huge thanks to Isaac, Ian, Phil, and Ryan from Open Roads Bike Program for hosting an industry tour for our Career Connect youth program participants! Recently, young people from our Career Coaching and MyCITY programs enjoyed an engaging visit to Open Roads, where they gained insights into entrepreneurship, non-profit management, and bike repair. They also learned how to completely disassemble an entire bike! The Career Coaches also joined in on the action! This fun, interactive experience enabled the youth to develop teamwork and communication skills while exploring the connection between bike repair and socio-emotional learning. We appreciate this outstanding organization for providing our students with this enriching experience. Thank you, Open Roads! Open Roads is a nonprofit organization that offers multiple youth development programs. They provide job skill training, apprenticeships, bike repair services, and more to youth in the Kalamazoo community. Throughout the year they run a variety of programs designed to provide bikes and bike repair services to students for low or no-cost as well as weekly open shop bike repair hours.
