Honoring My Father, Don Fernando Kafie 23 years ago today, we lost my father, Don Fernando Kafie. While his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in everything I do. He was a man of strength, love, and generosity—always thinking of his family and striving to see us succeed. His unwavering dedication to our well-being is something I carry with me every single day. A memory of the past with a focus on the future. This was the last batch of cigars made at Tabacalera Puros Aliados 8 years ago, a factory owned by the late Rolando Reyes Sr. the creator of brands like Puros Indios, Cuba Aliados, Cienfuegos, the Roly and also Genuine. There was something so very special about the fermentation process that this legendary Cuban cigar maker had, secrets that he brought over from Cuba. Many people don't understand that a cigar is not just rolled tobacco leaves. Not at all, a quality premium cigar is all about the proprietary fermentation methods and blending methods that each master has. In this realm, having owned Tabacalera G. Kafie y Cia. , I can tell you I have first hand experience of tobacco fermentation and the blending process to bring out the best flavors tobacco has to offer. I always produce premium cigars for the most discerning of connoisseurs, not really focused on the mass market. This is why today I work with the prestigious La Aurora cigars factory. Such tobacco methods and processes are all dependent on 1 sacred factor.... quality and quantity of fine tobacco. That is the rate limiting factor to the equation of making quality premium cigars. Knowledge is power, but great tobacco is the ultimate gift in this industry. Combine the two and you have before you a "real" 121 year legacy that is worthy of being praised and celebrated. I have learned a lot during my first (rough) 10 years in this industry, now the next 10 years I will focus on learning from my masters of this finely tuned establishment. A place where history (past) meets innovation (present) and they never stop pushing forward to advance the menu of premium cigar offerings. Today we are proud to work alongside this legendary factory owned and operated by the one and only Don Guillermo Leon and family with veteran master blender Manuel Inoa at helm of this great institution. Over the past year as the demand for our coffee has continued to increased, packaging become a topic of real concern. The artisan style craft bags we were using were no longer a reality. You see, those bags involved us being able to stamp the artwork on each bag. Each bag needed 2 stamps, 1 for the logo the other for the coffee varietal. We're now moving a volume which makes it impossible to continue to stamp bags. We need to always focus our efforts on quality. I'm going to miss the craft look, however I feel that what we are about to give you all is something much richer, with a vibrancy that reflects the love that we have for each and every type of coffee we offer. The marketplace is desperately in search of great family owned roasted coffee. We feel that our new packaging will certainly connect with consumers so much better. On the back of each coffee bag is a QR Code that will take you to a link on our website that helps to describe how to prepare our coffee to suit your personal preference. This is certainly much more interactive than anything we have done before. It all started with single source Honduras Arabica bean coffee, it has always our #1 seller. Today we offer coffee from 4 other major regions (countries) known for great coffee. Colombia, Brazil, Ethiopia, and Sumatra. We launched our coffee in 2016 when the FDA passed the deeming regulations on premium cigars as a way to raise money to support Cigar Rights of America. Today there is an organization that I equally love and is the Boutique Cigar Association, Inc. The BCA serves as a platform to identify a niche in the premium cigar marketplace that highlights small family owned boutique cigar makers. We are proud of who we are and what we represent in the premium cigar space. We plan to use a percentage of the proceeds from our coffee to help the BCA achieve it's intended goals. While many companies work day and night to not appear boutique, we thrive in this environment. Both in the space of premium cigars as well as boutique or artisan coffee roasters. Nothing will ever change who we are, this is our dream and we love sharing our dreams with you all. We anticipate the new look of our coffee will be hitting the market in the next 4-6 weeks.
