Happy Chuseok (??)! "Celebrated annually, over a course of three days, Chuseok is the Korea's equivalent of Thanksgiving here in the States. It's a national holiday, full of giving, sharing and gathering, to celebrate the coming of autumn and to pay respect to familial ancestors. Although the kinds of food and placement order may vary across regions and periods, the rite stems from the traditional idea of spiritual life after physical death and the belief that the appeased spirits of the ancestors will bestow good fortune, protection, and a successful harvest to the descendants. The Confucian tradition teaches people to share any such benefits received with family, friends, and neighbors, which is why Chuseok has always been not just a family holiday, but a village festival, sharing food, playing games and sports, singing, and dancing. During the Chuseok holiday, people go on seongmyo (??) to visit the ancestral grave sites to pay their respects, especially their immediate ancestors, at which time they perform beolcho (??), which is the trimming of grass and removing of weeds around the gravesite." https://lnkd.in/gVSKXWvF

Elevating and connecting Korean-American attorneys and law students in the Georgia legal profession. https://kabaga.org/
关于我们
The Korean-American Bar Association of Georgia (KABA-GA) was founded in Aug. 2012 by a dedicated group of lawyers with the purpose of elevating the visibility of Korean-American attorneys and law students within the Georgia legal community and to advance our professional development through mentorship programs, training, and community involvement. As of 2020, we have 198 members consisting of elected officials, judges, partners and associates, in-house attorneys, non-profit attorneys, law students, and solo/small firm practitioners. KABA-GA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, operates thanks to contributions from volunteer Committees, and is funded largely by membership dues and sponsorships. KABA-GA is a welcoming group and endeavors to be the friendliest bar association in Georgia. We are a professional association open to lawyers and law students of all backgrounds who share our goal of connecting, serving, and having fun. Each year, we host 5 to 10 events, usually consisting of social gatherings, professional panels, community seminars, and community service events. Individual committees also host committee-specific events throughout the year. KABA-GA also maintains language and other legal resources, the most comprehensive database of Korean lawyers in Georgia, and information on other Georgia bar associations and KABA chapters. We are an affiliate of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL), a worldwide network of lawyers and legal professionals of Korean descent. KABA-GA proudly hosted the IAKL conference in September 2018 in Atlanta, GA, which brought together over 400 lawyers from 4 continents and a dozen countries. That's a wrap! Last week, our humble bar association celebrated its 12th anniversary, where Judge Donald Lee gave an insightful address on public service and perseverance, we recognized President Jung Wook Lee for her years of dedication, and we took a moment to review the events and successes of the association to date. Of course, there was amazing food and raffle prizes too. The night was emceed by our very own Yoon Ettinger and Seam Park in an authentic, light, and joyous way that KABA is known for. Thank you to all who attended, and especially our volunteers, sponsors, and organizers! We are nothing without our people, and we use our very limited funds to bring lawyers together for genuinely FUN times, mentor young lawyers and students especially, and serve the Korean-speaking community with free public seminars.

KABA-GA welcomes home Dewey Edwards Rewis Jr., James Wilkinson, Luther Story, and Roy Barrow. Each were recently brought to rest in Georgia decades after giving their life in the Korean War. Over 70 years after the end of the conflict, a handful of soldiers are identified each year. Still, over 7,500 remain unaccounted for. Army Cpl. Dewey Edwards Rewis Jr. was a member of the 31st Regimental Combat Team of the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War when his unit came under fire on Dec. 2, 1950, during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. Army Sgt. 1st Class James L. Wilkinson, of Bowden, was accounted for Dec. 5, 2022. He was originally reported missing in action along the Naktong River in September 1950 and presumed dead in 1953. U.S. Army Master Sgt. Roy E. Barrow was reported missing in action on Dec. 12, 1950, after his unit was attacked by enemy forces in North Korea. He was 39 years old. Private Luther Story's infantry came under attack while withdrawing from the approaching North Koreans. Eyewitnesses testified that Story, despite only being a private, took a machine gun from a wounded fellow soldier and successfully killed or wounded around a hundred North Koreans, while also lobbing grenades at an enemy truck. His quick action provided a window of opportunity for the company to retreat. https://lnkd.in/eT9cjSRY https://lnkd.in/eTNX3CDb https://lnkd.in/etMCgBre https://lnkd.in/eNYxbfnt https://lnkd.in/eHki-Mag
