Thank you, Jennifer Schiess, for highlighting this recent research on the impact that strategic teacher compensation can have when done with a focus on critical shortage areas and expanding access to great teaching for students who need it the most. We especially appreciate the examples of retention strategies — enhancing the likelihood that teachers will return in the following year and remain energized and incentivized to serve in areas that are becoming increasingly difficult to staff. In many ways, incorporating strategic comp is no easy feat. The appropriate level of investment, however, is becoming critically important for student, teacher, and overall school success. Taxpayers, in turn, will steadily see the ROI, gain a better understanding of the need, and help change the narrative on school district funding. ??
We are seeing lots of chatter (for good reasons) about fiscal cliffs, declining enrollment, teacher shortages, the continued need to support accelerated learning and academic recovery, etc. Some of these forces push and pull in opposing directions. I'm reading with interest two pieces out recently, a study of spending versus enrollment in big urban districts from the Manhattan Institute highlighted in today's @the 74 million, and new research out from the National Council on Teacher Quality on an increase in strategic compensation for teachers. In the face of countervailing fiscal pressures, "strategic" feels like the word of the era in terms of budgeting and securing the right talent and supports for students in the right places. https://lnkd.in/eTXQ8xKJ https://lnkd.in/eBrCYDTp
