Students attending the Medford Public Schools in MN, sampled a Taste of Canada through our Global Bites program - Tasting the World One Bite at a Time! Chef Rowan Becker dished up 250 samples of?Pouding ch?meur,??a dessert that was created during the early years of the Great Depression in Quebec, Canada. This year's National School Breakfast week theme was, "Clue in to school breakfast." Students put their detective skills to the test as they searched for Dr. Montague, West Lake’s very own “hidden” principal. While cracking the code, two lucky winners uncovered a?"TOP SECRET"?treat bag filled with fun surprises!?140 students received activity sheets, magnifying glasses and sweet treats! Celebrating Black History Through Food - A time to honor and educate students on historical traditions. Chef Matthew Raiford, owner of Strong Roots 9, partnered with Food Service Directors Ayesha Edwards and Lloyd Griffin to bring a special menu to Oak Lawn Community High School and Roosevelt Roosevelt Junior High, highlighting African American foodways. Students enjoyed dishes like Poulet Yassa, Za'atar Roasted Chicken, Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower?and Collard Green Salad, creating an unforgettable culinary experience. Beyond the tasting, Chef Matthew also visited classrooms at Roosevelt Junior High speaking with students?sharing insights on different career paths in the food industry, inspiring the next generation of chefs and food enthusiasts.
