Testing S-band mesh communications in high mountain regions with K?GWERKS communications systems In preparation for the #SITM international mountain troops summit taking place this week in Grenoble, we spent the day testing performance of soldier-worn mesh communications systems in alpine conditions using Kagwerks Dock Ultra systems with Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) mesh technology inside. The various test phases focused on different areas including ergonomics, reliability and usability of small communications systems used dynamically in cold environments, the effects of cold weather on battery life time, the impact of significant terrain elevation on communications coverage in 3D environments with standard and non-standard antenna types, and pure maximum range/throughput data collection under different performance parameters. Lots of lessons learned, lots of impressive performance results, and lots of theory proven and disproven. Looking forward to comparing notes with the international alpine operations community over the next few days at SITM.
