Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) was founded in 1938 during the Great Depression to assist Jewish immigrants and refugees struggling to enter the American workforce and support their families. Today, JVS is among the oldest and largest providers of adult education and workforce development services in Greater Boston, serving a diverse clientele representing over 90 nations, and speaking 50 languages, and helping people secure financial independence through educational and employment services. With over 80 years of demonstrated excellence in workforce development, JVS has a reputation for continuous innovation, building person-centered and performance-based models to improve outcomes and increase programmatic effectiveness. Last year, JVS empower 16,000 individuals, including immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and older workers, to build their skills, advance their education, and build meaningful careers. JVS partners with over 1,300 area employers to help fill vacancies and provide the education their employees need to ascend their career ladders.

Our In-Service event was a huge success! JVS Boston teamed up with IFSI - Immigrant Family Services Institute to provide workshops on mock interviews and introduction to job searching, with incredible support from our staff, volunteers, and Haitian Creole translators from Rosetta Languages. It was amazing to step out of the office and share JVS resources with even more people. The event exceeded our expectations, with nearly 300 participants showing up to receive support. A huge thank you to MassHire Downtown Boston Career Center and everyone who made this day possible, and thank you to IFSI for your commitment to supporting immigrants in Massachusetts.

I am so incredibly proud of my team today (and every day. ) The Community Partnership team and the Community Outreach team invited our community partners to JVS for our second annual Community Connections event. Our partners got a chance to tour JVS, network with each other, and learn more about our programs and supportive services. We also got the chance to thank them for all of the collaboration we got to do with them this year. Whether that was attending their community events, sending clients their way for barrier removal, or working with clients they sent our way to connect them with our over 40 job training and education programs. Now more than ever, coming together as a community and pooling resources is crucial to our ability to serve the people that need it the most. Thank you to our partners that joined us today (tagged in the comments) we look forward to continued collaboration!

With more than 300 attendees, the event featured engaging activities such as a Mock Interview Workshop and a Resume Building Workshop. Jeff and Karen were honored to represent JVS’s Transitions to Work Program at the Federation for Children with Special Needs’ Youth Visions of Community Conference. They had a fantastic time engaging with over 100 young adults about the value of gaining paid work experience before graduating high school and speaking with dozens of parents about the importance of setting high employment expectations.
