关于我们
Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) was founded in 1938 during the Great Depression to assist Jewish immigrants and refugees struggling to enter the American workforce and support their families. Today, JVS is among the oldest and largest providers of adult education and workforce development services in Greater Boston, serving a diverse clientele representing over 90 nations, and speaking 50 languages, and helping people secure financial independence through educational and employment services. With over 80 years of demonstrated excellence in workforce development, JVS has a reputation for continuous innovation, building person-centered and performance-based models to improve outcomes and increase programmatic effectiveness. Last year, JVS empower 16,000 individuals, including immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and older workers, to build their skills, advance their education, and build meaningful careers. JVS partners with over 1,300 area employers to help fill vacancies and provide the education their employees need to ascend their career ladders.

We’re excited to share that Amanda (Mandy) Townsend, Senior Vice President of Employer Engagement at JVS Boston, recently joined the Coalition on Adult Basic Education podcast alongside Kelly Aiken, Director of Workforce Development and Planning at UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) to discuss the power of workplace education and employer partnerships. Mandy highlighted JVS Boston’s role in helping internationally trained healthcare workers enter and advance in their fields, and the impact of integrating education into the workplace.?A key focus of the conversation was the nationally recognized Healthcare Training Institute (HTI), a coalition of Beth Israel Lahey Health, Boston Children's Hospital, Mass General Brigham, and UMass Memorial Health, which has become a model for expanding learning opportunities for frontline essential workers. As Mandy shared on the podcast:? "JVS sits at this beautiful intersection of job seekers and employers. Our talent want jobs, our employers want talent. We are sort of the matchmaker in that equation. If people need skills, we get them skills; if they need a job, they get a job. The career piece that we are focusing on here today is upskilling folks once they get into that first job or that economic opportunity, taking it farther for them through the utilization of our incumbent worker training, which is what we do with training partners." This work would not be possible without the dedication of HTI employer partners and the JVS Boston team. Their efforts are shaping workforce development, creating opportunities for job seekers, and strengthening employer partnerships. Tune in to the full episode to hear how workplace education is supporting career growth and enhancing the workforce. https://lnkd.in/eGBVTuYY?

On Thursday, March 6th, JVS Boston’s Jeff Gentry, Sam, and others joined The Arc of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts DD Council at the State House for Advocacy Day. Sam shared how cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits could deeply impact people with disabilities, highlighting why showing up and speaking out matters. We stand with Sam and the 600+ self-advocates, parents, and allies committed to protecting the rights and resources of the disability community. Advocacy drives change, and we’re proud to be part of it. Yesterday, JVS Boston CEO Kira Khazatsky and VP of Philanthropy Dawn Hayes joined GBH Radio for a great conversation about the current state of the workforce and what JVS is doing to help.? ? Kira shared about JVS's mission and impact: "I ask this in every room - how many of us love looking for a job? There's not a single hand that goes up...now let's overlay that with a particular number of barriers, so immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities, folks that were caregivers for many, many years, who have a huge gap in their resume, young people who aren't taken seriously, older people who aren't taken seriously - those are our people. Our people are the untapped workforce that is the engine of the Commonwealth." ? Thank you to Jim Braude and Margery Eagan for hosting Kira and Dawn for such a great, meaningful conversation.
