14 new grantees were recently added to the AI for Economic Opportunity Fund. Selected from more than 400 applications, these nonprofits are pioneering AI-driven solutions to unlock $1 billion in new income for low-income communities. Three of these organizations stand out for their work in justice and systemic reform: ???Justicia Lab is expanding ?Reclamo! with an AI assistant to provide actionable legal aid to immigrant workers, combatting wage theft, and reducing poverty ???Mobile Pathways is using AI to expedite employment authorization for underserved immigrants through the Pathfinder platform ???Recidiviz is advancing criminal justice reform by applying AI tools to reduce administrative burdens in corrections At GitLab Foundation, we believe in investing in practical, real-world applications led by organizations with deep knowledge of the communities they serve. Immigrants deserve better tools to protect their rights, and Rodrigo Camarena is working to make that a reality. Through his efforts with Justicia Lab, he has already helped over 500K immigrants access crucial support. His latest project focuses on addressing wage theft, a $50B annual issue. The ?Reclamo! app, launched in late 2022, has already recovered $1.5M in stolen wages, empowering immigrant workers to take a stand against exploitation in the workplace. Last week, Justicia Lab joined immigrant advocates from across the country at the National Immigrant Inclusion Conference (NIIC) to build community and prepare for what's ahead. In between difficult conversations on how to best prepare for the looming threats to our communities, we took some time to celebrate our movement’s strength, resilience, and power through a campaign we call #PictureOurPower.
