Public defenders do the critical work of telling their clients’ full stories - ensuring the court sees them as more than just a case file. As Thalia Sady from Metropolitan Public Defender in Portland puts it: “I feel like I don’t know a single client that doesn’t have trauma in their background.” At JusticeText, we are proud to support advocates like Thalia in using video evidence to present a fuller picture - one that centers their clients’ humanity, not just the charges.

It was such a pleasure to present at the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Death Penalty Seminar in Birmingham earlier this month. We loved sharing how tools like JusticeText can help Alabama defense attorneys navigate their complex capital cases.

We are proud to share this Amazon Web Services (AWS) case study featuring our partnership with the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services. It has been incredible to see how public defenders across the state have incorporated our AI-powered bodycam analysis technology into their client advocacy. This partnership would not have been possible without the leadership of Chief Information Officer Jon Bartelson. He shares, "JusticeText is committed to putting this technology in the hands of public defenders [...] very little has been developed specifically with public defenders in mind. This levels the playing field."

Our Director of Customer Success Caroline Hanson joined Nashville Defenders Assistant Deputy Public Defender Georgia Sims for last week's National Association for Public Defense Women's Conference. Together, they led a discussion on how technology is transforming the way public defenders advocate for their clients. Georgia shared powerful insights on how she has used JusticeText to strengthen her in-court advocacy, leveraging video evidence more effectively in trials to achieve better client outcomes. Thank you to the National Association for Public Defense for organizing an incredible event centered on the experiences of women in public defense.

Our team is so excited to be partnering with the Santa?Cruz?County Public Defender’s Office, led by the incredible Heather Rogers. Their team is committed to providing holistic legal defense by addressing the underlying issues – homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use disorders – that led their clients to have contact with the criminal justice system in the first place. Public defenders are the backbone of our justice system, representing over 80% of all criminal defendants across the country. In Kentucky, these attorneys are working tirelessly in the face of resource constraints and steep caseloads. Earlier this year, our team had the privilege of visiting a group of Kentucky public defenders to learn more about their inspiring work. We are so proud to be supporting attorneys like Meredith Simpkins, Kathryn Daczka, and J. Parker Mincy as they fight to keep their clients out of prison. Our founder Devshi Mehrotra joined Reid Hoffman and Aria Finger on the Possible podcast for an incredible discussion on the role technology can play in enhancing police accountability within the criminal justice system. As part of the conversation, Baltimore City Director of Special Litigation Debbie Levi shared a story of a recent case in which her team used JusticeText to analyze a thousand body-worn camera videos. She said, "We were the most prepared attorneys in the room, having been able to evaluate each and every minute of digital evidence to find bits and pieces that furthered our defense."
