Reflecting on 50 years of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), we see progress—but also the urgent need for action. Compliance is slipping, and outdated "tough on crime" rhetoric is resurfacing. ?? Our latest infographic lays out a bold vision for JJDPA’s future: ?? Strengthening funding models to prioritize education, mental health, and skill-building ?? Empowering youth and communities with equity-focused approaches rooted in lived experiences. ?? Expanding protections to emerging adults, acknowledging their unique developmental needs ?? ?Boosting federal investment to ensure reforms are sustainable and impactful. We can’t afford to move backward. Let’s build a justice system that invests in youth development and creates opportunities for all. ?? Explore our infographic to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSRUENYt

?? JPI is proud to stand alongside 100+ organizations in signing the letter urging U.S. Senators to cosponsor the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act (CAOA) ?? This critical legislation would: - Deschedule marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act - Automatically expunge federal convictions - Reinvest resources in communities disproportionately harmed by the War on Drugs The CAOA represents a vital step toward justice, equity, and opportunity. As we continue the fight to heal and repair the harm marijuana prohibition has caused our communities, we invite you to learn more and join the movement for meaningful reform ? https://justicepolicy.org/ #justicereform #drugpolicy

?? The fight for #youthjustice continues!??? Check out our new infographic that explores the harmful practice of solitary confinement for youth. Nearly 60,000 children are held in juvenile facilities daily, many spending up to 24 hours alone in solitary confinement. The impact? Devastating mental health issues like depression, PTSD, and even suicide—half of all suicides in juvenile facilities occur in solitary. The UN classifies it as torture and calls for a total ban for children. States like California and Oregon have made progress in banning extended solitary, but 24 states still place no limits on its use. Together with Unlock the Box Campaign, we’re fighting for a justice system that protects and rehabilitates, rather than harms. ? ??
