Thinking about traveling and feeling unsure how to prepare for a potential phone search? The Guardian’s Opt Out column has some tips. In times when our data feels like it can be in the hands of the government at any point, we must remember that we have more power than we think if we prepare ahead of time.

Yunseo Cheung has been a legal permanent resident since she was seven years old. She is now the latest in DOZENS of students who have been targeted by Department of State and Department of Homeland Security. I feel like I'm living in a simulation. Capitulations and silence only gives them ammunition. https://lnkd.in/eQfvkX-4

In the last month, this government has tested its use of the Alien Enemies Act on political targets with the goal of disappearing those who support Palestinian rights. This is where they are heading. Entering homes WITHOUT a warrant heralds the homecoming of an authoritarian regime. We must hold the line on opposing the law in its entirety. https://lnkd.in/eY3uSgy5

The airport continues to be the site for digital surveillance dragnet. The war on terror and the war on migrants have become so entangled, it's hard to tell them apart. DHS will not stop here: the plans to cast an even wider net of surveillance is in the making. We did a report HART back in 2022 check it out here: https://lnkd.in/g6Hhxjhn https://lnkd.in/gF4KrKzw

RECAP ?? : Earlier this year, Just Futures Law led a group of objectors nationwide to present their opposition to Clearview AI's class action settlement. This settlement would allow the facial recognition company to continue operating with its business model of scraping everyone's data from the internet. And now, Clearview AI has new CEOs, Hal Lambert and Richard Schwartz, two people who have been vocal about cooperating and providing services to the Trump admin. As the Trump admin continues to demonstrate how readily it is willing to use tech surveillance to go after those who dissent, this weaponization of tech is as relevant as ever. It makes me even more grateful for the folks who took time to share their concerns. Watch & listen to some of the objections folks made in our #EyesonTech Insta reel. ?? One of JFL's first legal cases was fighting to keep TPS for Haiti during Trump's first administration. And late last week, we sued once again to defend TPS for Haiti. We're representing a group of Haitian TPS holders, the local SEIU union branch, and a coalition of churches over the Trump administration’s unlawful halt of TPS for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the U.S.?

Thank you so much to Consumer Attorneys of California for inviting Just Futures Law to share some info today with a great group of attorneys throughout CA. This moment is one where anyone with a legal background can contribute to fighting back against mass deportation. Whether it's through joining rapid-response legal efforts responding to ICE raids, filing petitions to make sure people who are detained get out of inhumane immigration detention centers, or crafting lawsuits to hold private surveillance companies accountable, we need an all-hands-on-deck approach from the legal community. Grateful to join representatives from Pangea Legal Services, ZA Lawyers, and Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area who shared the important work they are doing now to make sure lawyers are plugged in and supporting immigrant communities.
CACO Members: Attend the next virtual DEI Committee Meeting with special guests?Roxana Moussavian (Pangea Legal Services), Gina Zapanta (ZA Lawyers), and Dinesh McCoy (Just Futures Law). Along with the Committee, they will discuss immigration law and advocacy efforts in response to the mass deportations happening across the United States. Email [email protected] to RSVP for the 2/27/25 virtual meeting starting at 2 PM PST. See you there! ??
