Advancing community-centered Zero Waste solutions

关于我们

Just Zero works alongside communities, policy makers, scientists, educators, organizers, and others to implement just and equitable solutions to climate-damaging and toxic production, consumption, and waste disposal practices. Our goal is to help create a world that relies on community-first Zero Waste systems with zero climate-damaging emissions and zero toxic exposures. We focus on policies and answers that put humans and ecosystem health over polluter profits.

Our throwaway culture is built on convenience — and fueled by companies that profit off single-use junk. But here's the good news: A reuse future IS possible. By swapping out single-use plastics, supporting reuse-friendly businesses, and pushing for local reuse laws, we can break free from the cycle of waste. ?? Let's build a world where reuse is the norm — not the exception. Learn more via the link! https://buff.ly/3TqACUS #ReuseRevolution #BreakFreeFromPlastic

We're trying to help spread the word while keeping things light. ?? ?? Just Zero's Communications Associate here! As someone new to the environmental space, working at Just Zero has taught me so much! I'm actively making changes to protect not only the health of the planet but also my own. For example, I’m cutting out toxic clothes made of synthetic fibers (did you know your skin absorbs the chemicals in your clothes?! ??). I'm also boycotting stores like Walmart, H&M, other fast fashion brands, and Amazon. Target is still a work in progress — but I’m trying my best! (Houston, TX doesn’t have too many alternatives ??). But really, it feels amazing to do my part. ???? Consuming less, making more intentional choices, and hitting corporations where it counts makes me feel like I actually have some control over the waste and climate crisis. Boycotts work! Just look at the 1970 Nestlé boycott — with collective persistence, we CAN make a difference. ???? Whenever possible, put your dollars into local businesses first. Prioritize small, thrift, and secondhand shops. And if you have to shop with major brands, choose the ones that actually invest in diversity, equity, and inclusion. ? February 28th is the Economic Blackout. Here’s how you play: no spending whatsoever if you don't have to! That means no gas, groceries, etc! (I know... harsh! But we can do it!) Our solidarity has power — let’s use it. ? Drop a comment! What stores have you stopped supporting? And which ones still have your business? Maybe it’ll inspire others to join in! #standtogether #bethechange

From toilet to table? ?? Sewage sludge is often used as fertilizer on farmland. But this sludge is loaded with PFAS, aka 'forever chemicals,' which don't break down and contaminate soil, water, and ultimately, our food. ???? Crops absorb PFAS. Livestock eat contaminated feed and drink polluted water. These toxic chemicals then make their way onto our plates, putting our health at risk. ?? It's time to stop this toxic cycle. @EPA Learn more about PFAS via the link. https://buff.ly/3PTYOOG art by Cormac Ganshirt #PFAS #ToxicSlude

Black leaders have shaped the environmental movement for generations — fighting for justice, sustainability, and a better world for all. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we're spotlighting five powerful voices: ??Dr. Wangari Maathai – Founder of the Green Belt Movement, she empowered women in Kenya to plant millions of trees, restoring forests and communities. ??Dr. Robert Bullard – Known as the father of environmental justice, he’s spent decades exposing how pollution disproportionately harms Black and low-income communities. ??Toni Morrison – The legendary author wove environmental themes into her work, reminding us that land is not just a resource — it’s a legacy. ??Dr. Dorceta Taylor – A trailblazing researcher. She has documented the deep ties between race, class, and environmental access, pushing for a more inclusive movement. ??George Washington Carver – An agricultural scientist who revolutionized sustainable farming, promoting crop rotation and soil health to protect the land. Black history IS environmental history. Let's honor these leaders by continuing their fight for a just, sustainable future. ?? #EnvironmentalJustice #ZeroWaste #BlackHistoryMonth

Did you know that 11 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year??? But there's hope--strong bottle bills are a proven solution. The higher the deposit, the higher the return! When states invest in these systems, recycling rates soar and litter drops. ?? These bottle bills work, and we need more of them! Let's work together for cleaner oceans and a healthier plant. Find out more about what makes a good Bottle Bill via the link. ?? https://buff.ly/3KltpSc #PlasticPollution #BottleBills #ZeroWaste

Hannah Einbinder used her platform to speak the truth: the climate crisis is real, and the fossil fuel industry is responsible. ???? The time for action is now—corporations must be held accountable for their role in the crisis. Policymakers, businesses, and individuals all have a role to play in driving systemic change. No more denial. No more delay. What steps do you think need to be taken to ensure accountability? Share your thoughts below. ?? #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalJustice

Our parents introduced us. My dentist thinks you’re great. But you’re toxic. ?? Plastic toothbrushes and dental floss seemed like the perfect match—until we learned the truth. Every time we use them, microplastics are flushed down our throats. Some never leave our bodies, embedding in our lungs, bloodstream, and even organs. Studies have linked microplastics to hormone disruption, fertility issues, and increased cancer risk. We deserve better. That’s why we’re moving on to wooden toothbrushes with natural fibers and eco-friendly floss made of materials like silk. No red flags, no plastic regrets. ?? Ready to push back against plastic? We’ve given you enough chances, but you never change. ???? This Valentine’s Day, we’re breaking up with plastic toiletry bottles because, while the product runs out in weeks — or even days — the bottle sticks around for 450+ years, piling up in landfills or being tossed into incinerators, polluting our oceans and environment, and breaking down into microplastics that eventually end up in our food and bodies. We’re done with the waste, the pollution, and the toxic baggage. We’re moving on to refills, bars, and sustainable options. ?? Ready to dump plastic too? What are you breaking up with this Valentine's Day?

It’s not me, it’s you. ???? This Valentine’s Day, we’re breaking up with plastic sponges—and for good reason! Every wash sends tiny plastic fibers down the drain, contributing to the 24.4 trillion microplastic particles already polluting our oceans. And when you toss it? It heads to a landfill, where it takes centuries to break down, or gets incinerated, releasing toxic chemicals into our air for neighboring communities to breathe in. ???? We’re choosing better. Will you? Help us fight plastic waste. Consider donating to Just Zero via the link! Every dollar helps us push for real solutions. https://buff.ly/3J6BnxF #BreakUpWithPlastic #ZeroWasteLove
