NEW PODCAST - I sat down with Dan Grech and talked OTEC. Ocean thermal energy conversion is really cool stuff. I didn’t even know what it was until chatting with Dan. Basically you can use the solar energy on the surface of the ocean to power a steam turbine. Think cheap baseload electricity for warm water islands around the world. NEW PODCAST- the Jones Act is just horrible. No two ways around it. And the biggest problem is that nobody even knows what it is. Basically it’s a 1920 law that states goods and services transported between US ports must be on ships that are US built, owned and staffed. Sounds good, right? But it’s actually a massive tax on the average American. And an even bigger burden on the folks in Hawaii, Alaska and particularly Puerto Rico. It’s the reason that Massachusetts periodically imports LNG from Russia. Fortunately Colin Grabow of the Cato Institute comes on the podcast and breaks it all down for us.
