Revolve Fund and Just Futures PBC have joined forces to provide community grant funding and technical support to Baltimore's emerging nonprofit and for-profit social enterprises looking to establish their first retirement program. The primary goal of Just Futures is to align organizations' finances with their social justice values. To be eligible for this opportunity, organizations must be based in Baltimore, serve East or West Baltimore residents or focus on social justice, have 2-4 unrelated full-time employees (or intend to hire them within three months), and have annual revenue of $1MM or less. While the initial selection of candidates has been made, additional recommendations are highly encouraged. The implementation of retirement plans plays a vital role in enhancing employees' long-term financial security, boosting organizational morale, attracting top talent, and retaining staff. These benefits lead to improved institutional performance, increased revenue, and are in alignment with Revolve's mission. • "From climate advocates and teachers, to social justice champions and arts protectors, America's nonprofit workers are struggling to make ends meet. A new report, [Alice in the Nonprofit Workforce: A Study of Financial Hardship], analyzes US Census data on 13.9 million nonprofit employees and found 22% of them live in households that can't cover the cost of essentials like housing, food, and health care, despite having steady full- or part-time employment. Further, nonprofit salaries have not maintained pace with the effects of post-COVID inflation, making it harder for workers to save[,] said George G., our CEO. Thanks to BenefitsPRO for sharing why Just Futures PBC is working hard to reclaim retirement for all. #retirementplanning #nonprofit #socialjustice

Investors can use shareholder power to push companies to behave more ethically. For 50 years, Investor Advocates for Social Justice has been leveraging shareholder power to “change systems that exploit people, harm the environment, and place profit over the common good.”? #Activism #MoneyTalks #CommunityPower ~Lisa, Manager of Coalitions and Worker Power

Investor Advocates for Social Justice proudly stands on a legacy of nearly 50 years, grounded in a commitment to justice that is even more urgent now than when we began. Founded during a time when corporations were profiting from apartheid in South Africa, IASJ - formerly called the Tri-State Coalition for Responsible Investment - has always maintained a clear focus on its mission: to challenge and change systems that exploit people, harm the environment, and place profit over the common good. Today, we lean even more resolutely into that mission with the same unwavering passion, inspired by both our founding principles and the vital plea of Laudato Si'—Pope Francis's vigorous call to care for the earth, our common home, and to be a voice for the vulnerable and against injustice and environmental degradation. Laudato Si' teaches that the cries of the earth and people experiencing poverty are intertwined, urging us to advocate for a unified approach through integral ecology. This philosophy drives us to confront the most pressing issues of our time - climate change, environmental degradation, racial injustice, and the exploitation of people. Psalm 37:27 says, “Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.” Our faith-based imperative empowers us to use our rights and responsibilities as shareholders to hold corporations accountable. We advocate for good business practices that respect human rights, protect creation, and prioritize the common good. We believe that businesses have both a moral and a fiduciary duty - and an international human rights responsibility -?to act ethically, transparently, and with respect for the communities they impact and the natural world we all rely upon. This is simply good business, and through our shareholder advocacy, we demand accountability, integrity, and corporate responsibility. As we look to the future, our commitment has become increasingly critical in the face of the consolidation of power and deepening political divides. These times make our mission more essential than ever, and we remain unyielding in this fight. Our history proves that when people of faith and conviction come together, we can challenge even the most entrenched powers. By leveraging our voice and resources, we champion our affiliates and impacted communities to help build a fairer, more sustainable world. Our legacy and our future are united by a simple truth: We are here to advance social, economic, and environmental justice, and to advocate for a world where all creation is respected and protected. Our mission is unwavering, and our commitment is unshakable. Even in the most challenging political climates, and amidst forces beyond our control, we are ready to roll up our sleeves and work for justice. Foundationally, we are built for this. With courage and conviction, IASJ remains committed to trekking the road to justice. #IASJ50YearsStrong

What kind of earth do you want to inhabit when you retire? At Just Futures, environmental justice is one of our goals. According to many advocates, liquified natural gas (LNG) exports worsen our climate crisis. Right now, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is accepting public comments. With two clicks, you can tell DOE you want them to protect our communities by rejecting new LNG export projects: https://lnkd.in/eA2pEU33 ~Lisa, Manager of Coalitions and Worker Power #JustTransition #RenewableEnergy #FridayFightDay

Bargaining for the Common Good (BCG) wants all workers to have a pension, so they can enjoy a dignified retirement. So do we. BCG also wants those pension funds to move out of harmful investments (like fossil fuels) and into initiatives (like affordable housing) that build power in working class and poor communities of color. So do we! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eWgrw54s #collectivebargaining #sustainability #future ~Lisa, Manager of Coalitions and Worker Power

Our Director of Investments, Francisco Garcia, uses 79 values metrics to work toward aligning our clients’ retirement investment portfolios with social justice values. One of those metrics helps us minimize investment in for-profit migrant detention centers. When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hires a corporation to run a migrant detention center, that corporation may be incentivized to save money. Investigators have found (link below) that some such corporations have skimped on providing water, nutritious food, or medical care to migrants. An immigrants rights coalition has made a petition urging U.S. Immigration to shut down these for-profit centers. Just Futures was founded in 2022 by longtime movement activists, nonprofit workers, and volunteers striving for an economy that works for everyone. After decades of experience working in #nonprofit, movement organizing, and #philanthropy, they decided to create the retirement platform that they always wished existed for themselves and their organizations–one that made it easy for nonprofit administrators to offer benefits and that could serve as a vehicle for shifting their hard-earned wages away from the extractive economy and toward regenerative investing.
