The Just AI Awards - "Ethical AI-solutions for Social Good," launched in 2024, is an initiative by the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), and institutionalised as an annual award system in partnership with the Emerging Technologies Wing of the Government of Telangana and the World Summit Awards (WSA). The awards are a cornerstone of the Global AI Summit, organised by the Government of Telangana, with its overarching theme “Making AI Work?for?Everyone”. The Just AI Awards aim to recognize three exemplary AI practices in India that address social and digital barriers, reduce socio-economic inequalities, enhance crisis response, and uphold democratic and feminist internet principles. Special emphasis is placed on ethical data collection, participatory development, gender justice, inclusivity, linguistic diversity, and universal internet access. The awards celebrate AI as a social good, tackling ethical issues like data privacy, algorithmic biases, and discrimination. By highlighting innovative and impactful models, the Just AI Awards promote AI solutions that are accessible, affordable, and accountable to all citizens, fostering a citizen-centric approach?to?technology.
