The Junior League of Portland is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Portland Focuses on Early Childhood Development. Specifically, the league promotes the growth of physical, intellectual, emotional & social skills of children ages 0 to 6. Volunteers have worked at the Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Clubs, North Portland Community Health Clinic, the YWCA Transitional School for the Homeless, and Free Arts for Abused Children. League members have been involved with educational opportunities by participating in zoo programs for the deaf, educational television, and docent programs at the World Forestry Center, Portland Art Museum and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Our current community partners include: Children's Relief Nursery, Girls Inc, Peninsula Children's Center, Raphael House, Ronald McDonald House and the Salvation Army's White Shield. As a member of the Association of Junior League's International, we are part of a global team with 293 Junior Leagues from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Local members benefit from being a part of this global team by sharing ideas and community projects which are successful in other parts of the world and to use those experiences to better our own community.
