Last night I had the opportunity to support a colleague who was invited to speak to the National Association of Women in Construction's Winston-Salem chapter. Not surprisingly, John brought the house down. Speaking to a room of experienced professional women about how to show up authentically in a male dominated profession would be tough for anyone, and some of the attendees may have questioned his ability to do so at the start. Within minutes, JSpeaks won everyone over with his sincerity, empathy and understanding of the challenges women face when under-represented in the workplace. A few ideas that resonated with me: ? Release the pressure to show up as anything other than yourself. Sometimes women try to emulate the men around us to our own detriment. ? Imposter Syndrome is something we all experience - it's a result of stretching. Leverage a growth mindset to combat it and remember that you can't both me an imposter and authentically you. Choose you. ? It's OK to have an off day. Give yourself permission to take a moment when needed. Learn to be your own best friend in these situations and give yourself grace. ? Don't let any role or title define you. You are and will always be more than that. So much more was offered and I'm grateful that I took the time to be there. Often referred to as a Swiss Army Knife because of her sharp and versatile skills, Rada Mills has spent her professional career using those skills to help others succeed. As a serial social entrepreneur, she has founded multiple companies and has partnered with several organizations that have a required common principle: community. Creating and building a connected community aligns with why she felt a calling to be an entrepreneur. Her superpower is helping people find their voice, tell their stories, and build sustainable and equitable businesses using their gifts and talents. She was born and raised in NC and has over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur. Coining the term “Accidental Superhero,” It’s been her mission to ensure that the path to entrepreneurship is accessible for all. She has continuously focused her skills and talents on helping others, especially those from marginalized communities, build, nurture, and grow their businesses. Her love for volunteering and being a community advocate is essential and part of her everyday living. She’s honored to provide that advocacy by serving on the boards of several non-profit organizations and as a mentor at several entrepreneurship incubators and hubs. She owns a Boutique Public Relations + Marketing agency - Burt + Brewington Creative Agency - a Commercial Photography Company, a Candle and Skin Care line, and an Online Consignment Shop. In addition, she’s the author of a children’s book (with a second one already in the works), and her latest endeavor is being the Founder + Editor in Chief of 1865 Magazine a multicultural curated lifestyle publication set to launch in 2025. In her spare time, this self-proclaimed “foodie” enjoys doing standup comedy, trying out new restaurants and DIY projects, and spending time with her two (entrepreneurial) teen daughters. This morning, we were blessed to start our day with John Blakley, YouTube host of JSpeaks , motivational speaker, and life coach, as our part of our Wednesday Speaker series. His message to the young men centered around Proverbs 3:13-17 - “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.” Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to reflect on our past decisions and to dream big about the kind of person we want to be and the life we want to live!

This past Saturday, on October 12th, I had the honor and the privilege to speak to youth and adults from across the Carolinas on “the importance of owning your own voice” at the “2024 Carolinas Youth Mentoring Symposium”! To “own your own voice” is to be your true and authentic self. When one can do this successfully it changes the way that he or she shows up in life. When your confidence in yourself supersedes your fear of failure and or judgement it causes you to make all kinds of space to be all that you are, all that you have always been and all that you are destined to be.
