As the funding landscape evolves, global development organizations must rethink their strategies and roles in advancing #locallyled development. ?? The challenge lies in knowing ?????? to make these changes. In our latest blog, leaders from Unitaid, SAS+ (CDA Collaborative Learning Projects), PATH, and JSI share how they’re embedding #equity and #localleadership into their work, from co-creating health solutions to building pathways for sustainable transitions. These organizations show that meaningful change takes time and dialogue—and with incremental steps, we can achieve lasting, equitable solutions that drive impact. ?? ?? We are proud to have sponsored a satellite session at last week’s #UnionConf2024, focusing on the transformative role of #data and information systems in combating tuberculosis (#TB). The session titled "From Insights to Action: Bolstering National TB Programs and Results Through Improved Data and Information Systems" highlighted how data-driven approaches are strengthening national TB programs. Chaired by JSI’s Senior Technical Advisor Sabrina Eagan, with the TB Implementation Framework Agreement (TIFA) and USAID Indonesia’s Anastasia Susanto, the session showcased impactful solutions from #Pakistan, #Indonesia, and #Zimbabwe. Presentations and a panel discussion demonstrated how tailored technology innovations, such as Pakistan’s TB OUTREACH and DOTS Linkages applications, Indonesia’s interoperability solutions, TB DIAH’s Data-to-Action Continuum assessment, and Zimbabwe’s Making Sense of TB Data program, are advancing TB management and care. This session reflects JSI’s commitment to fostering data-driven strategies that bolster national programs, address local needs, and drive progress toward ending TB. We are grateful to our partners and colleagues whose collaboration and contributions made the event possible! We’re honored to have been part of #UnionConf2024, where we took over the USAID booth to connect with partners, share ideas, and showcase our collective efforts to #EndTB! The booth served as a space to highlight JSI’s work in advancing innovative health solutions, including our contributions to strengthening TB programs and improving health outcomes through data-driven approaches. We appreciate the many meaningful discussions, new connections, and opportunities to share how our projects—like the TB Implementation Framework Agreement (TIFA) and the TB Data, Impact Assessment and Communications Hub (TB DIAH)—are working to #EndTB. Thank you to everyone who stopped by—it was great to connect, learn, and share ideas with all of you! We’re grateful to USAID for the opportunity to showcase our work. #CHISUProgram's session today at #HSR2024 focused on Regional Approaches to sustainable #HIS strengthening by enabling catalytic country digital health strategy implementation. Mai H., Jai Ganesh Udayasankaran, Charmaine Metivier, Frances Baaba da-CostaVroom and Derek Kunaka discussed: 1. The digital health journey of countries and regional networks is a multiyear endeavor with the COVID-19 pandemic being an inflection point; 2. Digital health implementation requires a multi-sectoral approach which includes researchers, tech specialists, policymakers and national health focused associations 3. Capacity strengthening includes not only individual skills building but the development of data governance legislation, ability to engage policy makers and politicians and sharing of learning and experiences across countries and regions.

Earlier this week, we hosted a webinar “Smart Integration: Advancing Person-Centered Care in the HIV Response”. While panelists identified various approaches for integrating care, they shared common values: community engagement, person-centered service delivery that enables retention in care, context-specific integration, and long-term country-owned sustainability of the HIV response. Don't forget to register for our upcoming event on November 27 on "Turning Insights into Action: Adaptive Implementation in Practice!" Register: https://lnkd.in/dpec8vqA
One of the foundational thematic areas that we have been exploring this year is the power of insights in improving program implementation outcomes. In part 1 of this series, we partnered with Quicksand Design Studio to explore how to transform research findings into actionable insights that strengthen health intervention design: https://lnkd.in/dHUFJmFv In part 2, we were joined by experts from PATH's Living Labs Initiative who shared knowledge and tools that can be used to turn insights into powerful solutions: https://lnkd.in/dpMBAzAV In part 3 and the final part of this series, we have partnered with inSupply Health to discuss adaptive implementation in practice. We will learn from inSupply how they have used HCD insights to implement successful last-mile programs. Join us: https://lnkd.in/dpec8vqA

?? Rapid Response Disease Surveillance Teams Save Lives and Protect Communities in Pakistan ?? Meet Murk, a young girl from Karim Bux Jamali village, Pakistan. On September 3, 2024, when Murk started showing severe symptoms of diphtheria, a nearby rapid response team sprang into action, likely saving her life. Within hours, the team—trained through the USAID Integrated Health System Strengthening and Disease Surveillance (IHSS-SD) Activity—reached her village, assessed her symptoms, and arranged for her urgent transfer to a hospital in Karachi. After five days of treatment, Murk was declared diphtheria-free and returned to her community. But the response team’s efforts didn’t stop there. While Murk was in the hospital, they took vital steps to prevent a potential outbreak, screening members of her household and community and administering live-saving vaccinations. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eXGj8629 Learn more about how the IHSS-SD Activity is improving disease surveillance and response systems across Pakistan to better detect and respond to infectious disease outbreaks and strengthen global health security: https://lnkd.in/eB-C4-np #GlobalHealth #Pakistan #HealthSystemsStrengthening #GlobalHealthSecurity

Drawing on our expertise from over 73 countries, we’re tackling infectious diseases like #malaria by strengthening local health systems to prevent, identify, and treat illnesses while expanding access to high-quality care. Learn more about our infectious diseases work: https://lnkd.in/edf4797T #GlobalHealth #TropMed24 #InfectiousDisease #InfectiousDiseases
Valuable insights and inspiring connections at #TropMed24! Engaging with the vibrant ASTMH community—dedicated researchers, scientists, and health practitioners tackling critical challenges like malaria, dengue, Marburg, Ebola, avian flu, and more was great. This year’s focus on?climate and disease?highlighted key challenges in malaria elimination—like resistance, asymptomatic malaria, and policy gaps—and the need for tailored multi-level solutions. Here are some of my key takeaways: ?? There's no single solution to infectious diseases like malaria. Success depends on a?complimentary mix of interventions—ITNs, medicines, rapid diagnostics, vaccines—tailored to local contexts and effectively deployed at the subnational or local level. ?? Stronger?health systems?and real-time, actionable data are vital for improving surveillance, detection, and response. Cross-sector collaboration is critical to breaking down silos between climate, health, and animal health sectors. ?? The?One Health approach?underscores the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, especially in light of emerging infectious diseases and climate shocks. I'm proud to be working side-by-side with JSI colleagues in Uganda, who are leveraging similar approaches to reduce malaria deaths and strengthen community health systems.
