Behind the scenes process sneak peek of our 2025 calendar! Doesn't everything look easy in fast forward?

Felt like we all might need this reminder this morning: progress is messy, and its layered! Heres a little video clip from the creation of the J Sherman Studio artwork calendarI find it so satisfying to watch. Time lapse makes everything look so deliberate, but the reality? Theres so much exploration in everything we do! Can anyone guess which month of the 2025 J Sherman Studio calendar* this is? ?? *And if you dont know what the Studios artwork calendar is well, thats a sign I still need to make you part of our inner circle. ?????? #WIP #StudioLife #CreativeProcess

Hi, Im Kate, senior designer at J Sherman Studio and lover of all things thoughtful and impactful. My work is all about creating designs that connectwhether its bringing clarity to a complex idea or helping a cause shine brighter. When Im not designing, youll find me chasing my toddler around, exploring the city with my dog, or geeking out while I learn a new skill. Theres nothing better than using design to make a difference, and I feel so lucky to do it every day.

Word nerd alert! ?? "Charrette"which now refers to intensive creative brainstormsoriginated in 19th-century Paris at the cole des Beaux-Arts. The word means "little cart" and comes from the practice where architecture professors would push carts around to collect students' drawings at deadline time. Students would frantically rush to finish their work, sometimes even sketching as the cart rolled away! And so, the word came to represent the creative energy of last-minute problem-solving. Now, were creating our own little charrettes to keep ideas flowing!

Charrette. Sprint. Quick burst of creative energy. Whatever you call it, J Sherman Studio has been leaning into short, focused work sessions latelybecause stability left the room for the whole world in 2020. I used to chase it. A world where the news isnt a daily plot twist. A routine for my kids that doesnt change every five minutes. Work that stays beautifully on track. But honestly? This not-so-normal is now just normal. So instead of waiting for things to settle, were diving into sprints. My friend Raffi DerSimonian reminded me last year of the word charrette (which makes me think of architects, coffee, and all nighters!), and Ive been embracing the word ever since. Some are fast sketching rounds, others are a single design pass, and sometimes, its all about nailing the logic behind a creative strategy but then pausing before we move forward. It just feels like the responsible way to work right nowkeeping things moving, making progress, but not boxing anyone in or waiting for the perfect moment to commit. Anyone else living in a world of charrettes right now!? Anyone want to do one? And if so... whos bringing the coffee??? ?
